Title: F.3.A.R.
Post by: GamerMan316 on March 24, 2010, 06:34:00 AM
F.3.A.R to be revealed next month

Warner Bros. appears poised to reveal a third F.E.A.R. game - dubbed F.3.A.R. - next month.

An unnamed Spanish Magazine teased an upcoming feature with a new piece of artwork (found by a NeoGAF-ite and then Kotaku) .

This shows a presumably grown-up Alma (the scary little girl) with a baby in her belly. And she is flanked by two gentlemen: one with a bullet-hole in his head, the other with long hair, a machine gun and a scowl.

F.E.A.R. - first released on PC in 2005 - was a scary psychological horror shooter with impressive tech; enemies were clever, explosions and gunfights were spectacular, and slow-mo gameplay captured the lot. "Frighteningly impressive," said Eurogamer's 9/10 review.

Day 1 Studios ported Monolith's game to Xbox 360 a year later and the effect was similarly impressive, and also received 9/10 on Eurogamer.

However, F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin - released at the start of 2009 - wasn't as good. Competent but a shadow of its former self, concluded the Eurogamer 5/10 review.

I loved the first FEAR.

I bought FEAR 2 last year, but haven't had a chance to play it.

If I end up liking FEAR 2, FEAR 3 (F3AR) will be on my "buy it on sale" list.

The first FEAR was a damn fine FPS, the enemy AI was superb, some cool weapons and the slow motion stuff worked well, I liked the J-Horror influences as i'm a massive fan of that genre, but being a massive fan meant that I saw all the supposed scares coming from a mile off, way too predictable, but it didn't ruin my enjoyment of the game and I can see how other people would think it's scary, one things for sure, it's still a lot scarier than Dead Space  ;D

FEAR 2 was just plain average, even the FEAR Files expansion was better than the sequel.

World exclusive F.3.A.R. reveal - only in PSM3
The new issue of PSM3 goes on-sale today, with a world exclusive F.3.A.R. reveal

The sun is shining, it's almost the weekend, and PSM3 issue 126 is on-sale today. It's a GLORIOUS day to be alive. So there's every reason for you to roll out of the house/office/dungeon today and pick up a copy of the new mag - it's rammed full of PS3 and PSP news, reviews, insight and industry gossip (just wait until E3, then remember where you read it first), the highlight of which is the world-exclusive reveal of horror shooter F.3.A.R.  (or FEAR 3, if you prefer).

Want to know how a pregnant woman - yes, Alma, the misunderstood psychic nightmare/girl/woman from the previous games - is going to destroy the world? Or how you're forced to join forces with a man you've already killed - who, er, also happens to be your brother to stop her? Except, of course, you might not be stopping her, but helping her, since she's your mother? It'll all make slightly more sense when you read it, but above all, it's a bold attempt to re-define co-op shooters, with genuine scares, and a secretive defect/co-operate central mechanic, where... well, we're not allowed to spill any more here, but it's an approach that'll raise some eyebrows.

Oh, and if it needed any more billing, the cut-scenes are being directed by John Carpenter, the influential thriller/horror director behind seminal 80s movies like The Thing, The Fog and Escape from New York. We'll omit Ghosts of Mars, 'starring' Ice Cube and Jason Statham, for obvious reasons.

Nice trailer ... if F.3.A.R was a direct-to-video movie.  I think someone forgot to tell their marketing people to let people know it's a videogame.

Paxton Fettel - Playable in SP...I'm getting a very Bioshock-y feel out of this trailer. Not sure if that's good or bad...

I may just be back on board for this, if for no other reason, then to see where the story goes. F.E.A.R. 2 left a real cliffhanger...

Same here, I'm approaching this with cautious optimism, the first two were awesome and my curiosity is peaked more with each trailer released.
