Title: WWE '12
Post by: GamerMan316 on May 31, 2011, 06:55:54 PM
WWE '12 dated and detailed

WWE '12, this year's entry in THQ's long-running wrestling franchise, enters the ring on 25th November for PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360, publisher THQ has announced.

Developer Yuke's has instituted a number of big changes to its annual series, not least ditching the traditional SmackDown vs Raw suffix.

"I've just felt for a couple of years now that the franchise has been getting stale and in need of a reboot. Not just with the name but also with the game experience," explained creative director Cory Ledesma in a Q&A on the game's official site.

"The name of the franchise evolved a couple of times over the years, and it has gotten to the point where the name doesn't really mean anything. WWE currently doesn't have brand wars, and the shows themselves are rarely competing against each other, so SmackDown vs. Raw as a name doesn't really have a meaning."

According to IGN's reveal, among the headline additions is a new animation system that lets you interrupt opponents' moves mid-flow. The camera angle has been pulled back, the speed of gameplay ratcheted up and a new taunt system brought in for a more TV-like experience.

Analogue stick grapples will be replaced by traditional face button attacks. Limb-targeting has been added, as has a new 'Breaking Point' submission mini-game.

Game-changing Dynamic Comebacks will give you a shot at coming back from the brink of defeat to clear the ring, and there's improved AI that should be able to detect if you're spamming moves.

"We aren't changing the game entirely or completely ripping everything out to start over. That wasn't the goal," insisted Ledesma.

"What we are doing is taking the basic essence of what is good in the past games and making a new experience that feels fresh, fun, responsive, faster, smoother and is of higher quality.

"If you're played the SmackDown vs. Raw games in the past, I have zero doubt you will notice the difference as soon as you pick up this year's game."

WWE '12 will be THQ's second grappling sim of the year, following the more arcadey, OTT action of WWE All-Stars, which launched to measured acclaim back in March.

There's a teaser trailer below, though it's light on actual gameplay and heavy on Randy Orton's sweaty pecs. Enjoy.

THQ Reveals WWE ’12 Roster, Features Over 60 Superstars
You decide the Collector's Edition

THQ unveiled over 60 Superstars for WWE ’12 this past Summerslam weekend. The roster covers both RAW and Smackdown and even includes some Legends. There’s a disturbing lack of Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart right now but there are still 14 characters that haven’t been revealed yet. There’s no way they won’t be the game in some capacity.

A Collector’s Edition was also announced at the event. THQ is letting fans decide which version they want on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/WWEgames?sk=app_117361208354897). You can choose either the “People’s Edition”, featuring The Rock or the “Champ’s Edition” with John Cena on the cover. The Rock is currently dominating the polls, thankfully.

You'll probably be able to change them from Heel to Face in My WWE again, so Punk can get cheered. Actually looking forward to this, could be a day one purchase.

40-Man Royal Rumble In For WWE '12

THQ has confirmed that WWE '12 will have the all-new 40-man Royal Rumble. As WWE fans know, the Royal Rumble was increased to 40 men this year.

THQ's Community Manager confirmed this via twitter saying:

Yes 40-man Royal Rumble is IN! Confirmed that earlier tonight...

This means the Royal Rumble match will be longer as the previous maximum for participants was only 30 men. The WWE had 30-man Royal Rumbles for the past 22 years when the event started back in 1988.

In 2011, the WWE decided to makes things more interesting and increased it to the first ever 40-man Royal Rumble. As WWE fans may already know. Alberto del Rio was the first to win the event under the new format.

Like in previous WWE games, it's likely you can decrease the number of participants if you wish. You may want to only have a 10-man Royal Rumble or even a 20-man Royal Rumble instead.

Hopefully they ditch the god awful button bashing eliminations from Smackdown vs Raw 2011 but they most likely won't!

A few ring entrances for you, the crowd sounds a lot better this year, though it seems like it's all Cena's fans in some of the vids!

Major Name Set For WWE '12

Brock Lesnar will be announced as a "legend" in WWE '12 this week by THQ.

UFC has approved Lesnar's inclusion in the game as long as he is being presented as the wrestler and not the MMA fighter.

Paul Heyman is believed to have been involved in closing the deal to get Lesnar in the game.

Yeah this is the only game I ever buy unless I magically come across money. So I wasn't sure about Road to Wrestlemania this year do you pick a a set superstar this year or pick anyone and you follow those paths because I know the three I want already. I liked WWE Universe from last year except the fact that they played the same cutscene scenarios to much hopefully this year will actually be bigger, badder, and better. And most of all I'm ready to layeth the smackdown on some candy a***s with The Rock.

I have issues getting this sort of game every year, same with Fifa and F1 - what's different with 2012 for WWE? I managed to get one of my two 100% achievements for the 2010 WWE game, after that kinda felt like leaving the series alone. :D Still. Anything worth buying this for eventually that sets it apart?

This game is ace. Been playing through WWE Universe pretty much all day. Won my debut against Santino, only for Brock FUCKING Lesnar to come down after the match and beat my ass! Started a mini feud with Del Rio, but he's beaten me so badly now, I'm always on Superstars at the minute! :(
