Title: It's in my hands
Post by: nCogNeato on July 29, 2009, 04:43:10 PM
A coworker brought his PSP to work today.  Since I'm the resident "nerd", he wanted me to help him set it up.

Until today, I've never actually held a PSP.  I have to admit it is very sexy.  I wish I had more time for gaming, if so I may consider buying one.

... Who am I kidding?  If I had more time, I would just play more Xbox 360.   :-[

you could develop crab like hands from playing that damnable PSP.... it does have a plethora of Final Fantasy games though ... but then i'd have less time to work on my gamerscore

I would go ahead and use Remote Joy. Have you hacked it yet?

Nope.  I'm still waiting for my new LCD replacement screen to deliver.  The PSP will turn on, but I can't see what I'm doing.  lol

Just like my DS, I plan on pirating my games.  I know that's bad, but I have no desire to spend money on something I only use for 1 hour every few months during long car trips or waiting in an airport.

I haven't done the research yet, but I do know there is a homebrew/modding community for the PSP.  If anyone knows the best route to take to softmod an old "fat" PSP, holla atcha boy.

I've done it.  RemoteJoyLite & the latest custom firmware, fully capable of playing PSP and PS1 iso's.

Over the weekend I played through the first 1/2 of God of War: Chains of Olympus.  I have to admit I was shocked to see polygon nipples on a handheld gaming platform.   :D

So far I have Dissidia FF, Tekken DR, and Patapon on my playlist.  Any other recommendations?

The PSP is ok for a quick fix,but you just can't beat the Xbox.

I have my PSP connected to my PC, which allows me use my wired Xbox 360 controller as well as view it on a larger screen (PC connected to my HDTV).

After I set everything up, a friend came over while I was playing God of War: Chains of Olympus in my living room with a 360 controller.  He was completely confused as to how I was playing God of War on my Xbox 360.   :D

I've got the point where any controller other than the Xbox 360 controller just does not feel good.  I also use my 360 controller to play my PS3 (http://360fahrenheit.com/fahrenh1_forum1/index.php?topic=307.msg10623#msg10623).

HOW DO I GO ABOUT GETTING FREE GAMES FOR IT?

It's not as easy as the Nintendo DS.  It greatly depends on the Model and firmware you're currently using.  Some models and firmware are easier than others.  Some are not hackable at all.

(Before clicking on the links below, makes sure your pop-up blocker and antivirus software is protecting you)

CLICK HERE (http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/f133/) for various tutorials.
CLICK HERE (http://www.psp-hacks.com/psp-hacks.php) for various downloads needed.

It will require a lot of trial-and-error ... and A LOT of patience.  After an hour, I considered quitting, but I stuck with it and after a couple more hours finally got it to work.

Sambo, bring it over when you next come over and I'll get it working for you. I've had mine running on custom firmware for years.

Neato what programes do you use to get the psp display via your pc and also using a 360 controller, intrested in getting that set-up as ive just got back into modding my psp again.

Currently using 5.00 m33-7 with IRShell. using Usbhost to play isos of my pc hard drive as im too tight to go and buy a new memory card.

RemoteJoyLite (http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/f133/tutorial-installing-remotejoy-lite-t236366/)

In addition to feeding your PSP's video output through its USB sync cable, it also supports keyboard/joypad control input.

RemoteJoyLite has a built-in Xbox 360 control input scheme, but I prefer to use the keyboard scheme paired with Xpadder 5.3 (http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Xpadder.shtml) (the last free version before it became pay only).

I use a wired Xbox 360 controller, but I'm pretty sure you can still use a wireless controller as long as you have the PC wireless dongle.
