Still not sure what to make of this franchise. The first one had a really compelling opening trailer, but didn't do much to continue that interest and from the bugginess I've read and heard about - there are still questions.

I'd hope some real dedication to fixing the issues in the first game is taking place, but the fact that it's leading with a sequel this soon makes me think that might not be the case.  :-\

The trailer made the game look like it offered real drama and story, and it turned out that the game just didn't do that in any way. However, I still wouldn't write the game off. Lying trailer aside, the game was still pretty darn fun. As far as I'm concerned, the clunkyness of the physics engine and animations just lent to the overall silly charm of the game. I don't often say this, but I think I'm down for a sequel.

I heard that you can. Ring your characters from dead island and play them in riptide. I forgot where though.

Another beautifully touching trailer that completely gives you the wrong impression of the game itself.

Cool trailer though.

Dead Island: Riptide Gets a New Character, New Screens and New Details

Deep Silver has revealed more details about Dead Island: Riptide today, including a first look at the game's fifth character, John Morgan. Joining the original four protagonists from the first Dead Island, John is a US Navy man with expertise in hand-to-hand combat. With his US Navy career taking a wrong turn, John finds himself working as the cook on a military ship. Erm... Under Siege, anyone? Presumably, nobody beats him in the kitchen.

The town of Henderson has also been unveiled as a new location on the island of Palanai, where our intrepid survivors find themselves. Situated in the once beautiful Banoi archipelago, Henderson has a Mediterranean vibe, with the port town proving a luxurious place for the wealthy yacht owners and eco tourists that visit Palanai.

Of course, like the majority of Riptide's locations, Henderson is flooded in monsoon water and falling into disrepair. You'll need to find higher ground and avoid what terrors lurk beneath the waters.

I didn't know Ellis had an older brother.

I'm pretty sure buying that puts you on sort of government watchlist.

At least the zombie hula girl is funny.

Probably get the normal edition when it comes out, then get the goty edition with all dlc. Here's to hoping they get new music in instead of the stuff they used in the demo. I hope the game is more than recycling a bunch of assets from Dead Island and just saying it's a new game.

Seems reviews on this are still just as mixed as they were with the first game. Which I haven't, but am still meaning to try out at some point.  :P

Personally I'm liking the game. It really comes down to if you enjoyed the first game or not. If you did you'll like this one too.

It was okay I guess. I played it in single player mostly since the first time I tried it in multiplayer it kinda went downhill. I tried again and some 12 year old kid started using a hacked handgun with a rate of fire akin to most mounted machine guns. The last fight was unsatisfying IMO, and Techland or whoever makes the game really needs to learn how to make a more satisfying ending.
