So after playing through the demo which is about an hour long but you can easily get more out of it, all I can say is well done SE for listening to the fans. The changes/upgrades on show here make it way more than a FFX-2 (remember how that game was unfocussed!!). The demo is out there so for anyone that liked FFXIII you will love this, for those that didn't check it out anyway.

The game looks gorgeous however the droplets on the screen are a bit over the top and annoying, it is a rainy area in the demo so I know the rest of the areas won't be like that. Mini games are back, talking to people is back (not as deep as Bethesda/Bioware rpgs but FF never was), chocobo racing is back<<<<yess!!!

Also back is gil dropping from mobs.

Battle changes:

Major shift here and all good too.
The first noticeable thing is enemies no longer occupy the field, yes just like older titles in the series it's random battle but with a difference. When you enter the range of enemies a radius glows around your characters and a compass appears centrally and  then enemies appear in view. The compass arrow allows you to gauge if you are in position for a pre-emptive strike/or reverse, the player is in total control here to move around behind the enemy and must press ''A'' to strike and engage. The radius does begin to go red, warning the player that time is running out before engaging at current positions, so be quick to line yourself up. There's another cool feature here as well which involves running from battle but I'll let you see that for yourselves, it's kinda of subtle.

The paradigm system, crystarium have all been overhauled and even the onscreen hud is a touch more classy as well as the menus.
Party leader can be changed in battle, no more stuck with one player controlled character in battle.

The addition of ferals (the mobs of the FFXIII-2 world) as tame-able familars is probably the best new feature. They are upgradeable through special items and key in battle, performing roles from medic/saboteur etc etc, and the finest point is that they can be named by the player, ok so from a long list but again another key feature of FF returns-renaming.

The addition of a jump buttin is a little controversial for the series but I'll hold  judgement on that one.

Mog<<<<<<yes mog is in action. The player has a moogle that can search the area for hidden items, and as seen in the footage after the demo can be thrown in order to reach higher places.

The one thing and it's the only thing that grates me about FXIII-2 is sadly the music, granted this may change as I hear more of it but what I have heard is not to my liking.

Overall FFXIII-2 as it stands looks like everything that FXIII should have been but in fairness to that game the story didn't allow the player to stop in towns and play mini games, it just wouldn't have made sense.

Tons of changes and some beautiful styling looks like FF is back on track.
This has been a bit of a long in the tooth review/impression of the demo but I'm a Final Fantasy nut, what can I say. A game that was on the watch list has now climbed off that ladder and very much back into my console!

Check out the demo :)

Downloaded - will try it out sometime tomorrow. I haven't played a FF game since X on the PS2 so, much of this is all news to me.

I honestly don't think a demo has ever convinced me to day one purchase, at least I can't remember anyway. But as I look about the interwebs there is a lot of negative feedback about the demo, it just brings the term ''hater's gonna hate'' to light. I honestly don't get what they're going on about at all!

Anyway, slight spoilers but story wise just a couple of sweet recruitables:

Not overly sure if this guy is recruitable it's in japanese man!!!! but still a cool mob.

Kotaku review, seems to be hovering around the 8/80% kind of mark. Somewhat expected. Interesting review from Kotaku though.

Ok so first off this game is pretty damn sweet. New character Noel is much tougher than I thought he'd be, very cool. The monster system is just class, feels like a little bit of pokemon dare I say it rolled in! The music sucks/rocks, just as I thought, some I love and some I hate but the quality is top notch, sorry Bastion gtfo.
Maybe it's just me but the enemies seem to have more life in them, and the hp counts are higher early in the game than XIII was. Some very cool ''big'' mobs, getting owned is actually quite pleasant.

Still early days but already the tunnel vision of XIII is nowhere to be seen.
FFXIII-2 sure has personality I'll say that right now :)

Being able to go where you like in the Historia Crux is good, but the frakkin Historia music is a pain, so repetitive.
