Remedy Discuss Their Involvement With Max Payne 3

With Rockstar taking Max Payne under its wing for the third game in the series, Max Payne 1 and 2 developer Remedy has still had its say for Max Payne 3, despite not being directly involved with the project. Gamespot recently conducted some video interviews with Remedy's Sam Lake and Matias Myllyrinne discussing their involvement with the game.

Both Writer Sam Lake and Remedy Managing Director, Matias Myllyrinne talk about Max's past, from his turbulent New York-based chapters in Max Payne 1 and 2, to his upcoming journey from hardboiled ex-NYPD cop to shaven-headed man on fire.

After deciding to pass on the awesome Batman Arkham City "statue" edition, I think I'm finally pass the point of buying these extravagant special editions.

For now on, I'm only buying special editions if they offer something that actually enhances the gameplay experience.  I have enough keychains, playing cards, and memorabilia to last me 10 lifetimes.

Statues and trinkets as a factor don't really sway me much either. Soundtracks, books and behind the scenes stuff, always make me think twice though. Not so sure about this one, at least not yet.

First Max Payne 3 'Gang Wars' Multiplayer Details Revealed

Max Payne 3 might not necessarily seem like the ideal candidate for a multiplayer mode, but Rockstar is looking to prove those very misgivings wrong, with an interesting multiplayer aspect called 'Gang Wars' in which you're charged with playing the part of a cog in a machine, as you encounter objectives and tasks that can change on the fly.

So, one round might start off with a drug deal gone wrong, wherein you'll need to run off with cash-stuffed duffle bags a la Kane & Lynch, taking them back to safe points before the next round switches things up completely, perhaps putting a bounty upon the head of the most dangerous player or tasking you with seizing gang turf, or even defusing bombs set by rivals.

Each objective is punctuated by voice-overs from Max himself, with XP accumulated after each match that earns you special abilities called 'Bursts' to use during a game. These include Bullet Time (natch), Paranoia, which makes opponents see their allies as enemies and Sneaky, which changes your Gamertag to the rival team's friendly colour, giving you the chance to infiltrate and sabotage. Intuition meanwhile, lets you see all enemies as silhouettes through obstacles.

Events from Max Payne 3's Gang Wars multiplayer will also intertwine with narrative elements from the single-player campaign, revealing what happened before or after certain moments involving the gangs Max fights during the story. It's a smart idea, and should ensure that multiplayer remains compelling and dramatic. 'Drama' seems to be the watchword for Max Payne 3, after all.

"The narrative element of Max Payne 1 and 2, and what we're doing with 3, is obviously very strong. So when you starting thinking about the multiplayer version of Payne, I think you've got to address that part of the game," Max Payne 3's Multiplayer Lead Designer, Charlie Bewsher told IGN. "But there's also a narrative unique to any multiplayer game, though – you sort of get this drama that unfolds."

Sounds like Max Payne 3 multiplayer might actually be a genuinely exciting prospect rather than a terrifying one then, with extra story bits to enjoy. Max Payne 3 is out in March 2012.

Max Payne 3 release date delayed until May
Take-Two now expects financial year loss

Rockstar's upcoming third-person shooter Max Payne 3 has been delayed from March until May, publisher Take-Two has announced.

The delay pushes Max Payne 3's release into the next financial year, meaning Take-Two now expects to make a net loss for the financial year ending in April, Business Wire reports.

Take-Two expects Max Payne 3 to generate between $210 - 230 million for the company - money that will now go towards the next financial year instead.

Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick stated the reason for Max Payne 3's "short delay" was to ensure the game will deliver "the highest quality, groundbreaking entertainment experience that is expected from our company".

"We do not take changes to our release schedule lightly," Zelnick said. "Max Payne 3 promises to be one of our most exciting releases to date, and we are confident that consumers will once again be amazed by Rockstar's ability to take interactive entertainment to another level."

Zelnick boasted that Max Payne 3 would join a bulging release schedule for the 2013 financial year - April 2012 until March 2013 - including yet-unannounced titles, but gave no specific mention of Rockstar's upcoming Grand Theft Auto 5.

"With Max Payne 3 now slated for May, our robust lineup of upcoming releases for fiscal 2013 is even stronger, including BioShock Infinite, Borderlands 2, Spec Ops: The Line, XCOM, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and other titles yet to be announced for release that year."

These trailers are slowly undoing the damage that watching the Max Payne film has done to me.

Jumping through the air while firing a gun before landing on concrete looks awesome in movies/videogames.

In real life ... concrete fill f*** your s*** up!
