Max Payne 3 for Xbox 360 will come on 2 discs
Campaign chopped into two parts

Rockstar has confirmed that the Xbox 360 version of Max Payne 3 will be spread across two DVDs.

Redbox, a rental service in the US, revealed that the first disc will contain half of the single player story and the full multiplayer experience. Rockstar later confirmed the information via a Tweet.

"Redbox only ever rent out one disc, for any multi-disc game," it said. "Max is on 2 discs for 360, so Redbox will be renting disc 1 which contains half of the single player story and the full multiplayer game."

Games split across multiple discs are common on the Xbox 360, although it's more prevalent in the role-playing genre. Recent examples include Mass Effect 3 and The Witcher 2. Rockstar's LA Noire was split across three discs due to the size of the game and the fidelity of in-game assets.

At the risk of sounding like trolls, we're just going to mention the PS3 version is on one Blu-Ray. Don't hurt us.

Seems like an odd choice to have the full MP and half the SP on one disc. Why not dedicate one disc to the SP and one to the MP? Maybe I don't understand how the whole process works, but the motivations for it seem a bit .... ???

Maybe I'm being too cynical...

Michael Pachter is giving Max some stick on Twitter:

“Max Payne 3 a flop, according to NPD; can’t believe Rockstar put off releasing GTA to work on that game.”

“Without divulging too much NPD goodness, I can tell you that Max Payne 3 sales were less than 50% of LA Noire’s. 8 years in development!”

He loves sticking the knife in and giving it a nice slow twist eh?   :)

Of 16th June it was barely scratching 1.5 million across the three platforms with pc the lowest and xbox the highest. Europe saw more sales as well. I think in fairness though this Michael Pachter is looking to make a name for himself he had some theory about GTAV's release date as well. La Noire was more anticipated because of what it promised and being a new IP. Max Payne has always had somewhat of a niche fanbase so to speak, add in the case that a lot of gamers are probably just putting the game on the back burner to play at a later stage including me. Check at year end and see what the numbers reveal I say.

Rockstar Closing Max Payne 3 Studio

Rockstar Games has announced that it will be dissolving Max Payne 3 developer Rockstar Vancouver as part of its Canadian expansion plans.

Rockstar today announced plans to open a larger studio in Oakville, Ontario for its other Canadian studio, Rockstar Toronto. The new studio is backed with full support from the Ontario government. There’s some good news for the Vancouver team though, Rockstar is offering every member of the 35-person team a place at the new studio, along with an additional 50 positions being made available over the next few months.

“Expanding Rockstar Toronto and bringing our Canadian development talent together under one roof underscores our commitment to building world-class teams that can make the kind of groundbreaking entertainment experiences Rockstar Games is known for,” said Jennifer Kolbe, vice president of publishing and operations for Rockstar Games. “A single Canadian team will make for a powerful creative force on future projects. We plan to add more than 50 new positions to our combined Canadian team, and are pleased to be entering into this strategic partnership with the Ontario government.”

Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development and Innovation, added that the “decision to expand its Toronto studio demonstrates the confidence in Ontario’s leading-edge digital gaming industry.”
