Samurai Shodown Sen will be released in Europe, as Rising Star Games snapped up the publishing rights.
Samurai Shodown Sen will feature over 20 playable characters, such as Haohmaru, Galford, Hanzo Hattori, Nakoruru, Ukyo Tachibana, Kim, J and Gallows.

"The kudos the SNK series carries sits comfortably within our portfolio and fans of the sword-fighting series won't be disappointed; the 3D graphics simply must be seen," says Martin Defries, managing director, Rising Star Games.

I hadn't heard of Samurai Shodown Sen until now.

Is it the same game as Samurai Shodown: Edge of Destiny, just with a different name in different regions?

OK.  After some google searching and forum browsing, I think I figured it out.

Thanks to the complete lack of synergy between international game publishers, the following games are actually the same game.

Samurai Shodown: Flash
Samurai Shodown: Sen
Samurai Shodown: Edge of Destiny

Samurai Spirits: Flash
Samurai Spirits: Sen
Samurai Spirits: Edge of Destiny

The words "Shodown" and "Spirits" are used interchangably through various Asian and European countries.
The word "Sen" is actually Japanese for "Flash".
SNK USA likes to f*** with everyone by adding "Edge of Destiny" to the the title for no reason.

lol. And I thank you for it, Neato.

Samurai Showdown is a series that will always be near and dear to my heart. That said, this game looks all kinds of slapped-together awful. At least they included my lady Charlotte.

I have some nostalgia tied to Samurai Shodown as well.

When I was roughly 12 years old, I remember wanting Super Street Fighter II for Sega Genesis.  Of course it cost way too much for me to afford, so I browsed my local pawn shop hoping to find it.  One day I stumbled upon Samurai Showdown II, and out of desperation convinced myself it was the same game.

I played it nonstop for probably 6 months before I eventually got my hands on SSF2.  I eventually sold my SSF2 cartridge to my friend years later.  I still have the Samurai Shodown II cartridge in my closet.   :D

The only experience i've had with the Samurai Showdown characters is in Capcom vs SNK, so it depends if this game has my facourite characters in wether ill rent it or not. Otherwise i might carry on waiting for BlazBlue to appear  :-\

BlazBlue is mighty good, you'll enjoy it.

too close to a BlazBlue release for me to consider it. I also have Bad Company 2, AvP, Bioshock 2 and Final Fantasy 13 to finish .... somehow i think this'll have to wait (unless i can get 1000G in <2hours)
