Karl-Magnus Troedsson, Executive Producer for the Battlefield series, has told OXM that premium DLC for Battlefield 1943 is in the works.
We asked Troedsson about the possibility of a sequel to last year's Xbox Live Arcade hit, Battlefield 1943.

"We will see more of those in the future? We'll see," he replies. "As a franchise, we're going to focus on the near future but that doesn't exclude that we can do more of these smaller products in the near future.

"However, there's one important piece to this puzzle, and that's that we need to take care of our products post-launch. We haven't released any premium DLC for 1943, for instance, which feels like a natural step to take."

Battlefield 1943 is XBLA's fastest-seller

EA and DICE have revealed that Battlefield 1943 has become the fastest game on Xbox Live Arcade to sell over one million units.

The game was released in July 2009 and is also available on the PlayStation Network. A PC version is also planned, but there's still no word on a release date.

"The reception of Battlefield 1943 continues to amaze us, even months after the game was released," offered Gordon Van Dyke, producer on Battlefield 1943. "Being the fastest game to reach this milestone is an incredible achievement."

According to Van Dyke, Battlefield 1943 has "set a new standard" for downloadable games. "It's fantastic to see how gamers have recognised the value that the game delivers for just $15," he added.

I liked the demo, so did my son.  Will probably opt for that game sometime soon, but its not like I don't have enough sitting on the shelf waiting for me to play.

There's so much wrong about that post. A mention of Mario Bros the Movie deserves a flogging. And I don't think crak's sarcasm got accross well enough.

Careful to not ignore a ginger.  They tend to sneak up on you.

Battlefield 1943 has earned EA $16 million

We've known for quite some time that Electronic Arts' Battlefield 1943  "experiment" was successful, selling over a million units on Xbox Live alone, but now CFO Eric Brown has revealed some numbers on the game's development cost and revenue. The EA exec stated at UBS's 39th Annual Media and Communications Conference that the game cost "single-digit millions" to create and netted (after Sony and Microsoft took their cuts) a healthy $16 million for the publisher.

Brown explained that EA expects digitally distributed product to make up 20 percent of the company's revenue this fiscal year. Beyond Battlefield, Brown also noted significant revenue from FIFA's Ultimate Team mode, along with full-game PC downloads.

With BF:1943's success, it'll be interesting to see how the Battlefield: BFBC2 Vietnam expansion experiment works out. Boiled down, Vietnam is essentially the same downloadable game concept as 1943, but called a "multiplayer expansion" that requires a copy of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 to play.
