LEGO Lord of the Rings Game Revealed

Lord of the Rings is the latest franchise to get the LEGO videogame treatment.

The news was revealed by leaked images of new LotR LEGO toy boxes, distributed to reviewers, carrying logos for video game developer Traveller's Tales and publisher Warner Bros. Interactive.

The game was also later confirmed by a listing on retailer ShopTo’s website. It was quickly taken down, but not before Google’s cache and screengrabs could do their magic. You can see the image below.

Featuring mocked-up box art, the LEGO Lord of the Rings listing states a 26th October release date or the Xbox 360 version of the game.

LEGO: Lord of the Rings Will Feature 85 Playable Characters

The rather charming looking LEGO: Lord of the Rings will feature a whopping 85 playable characters, including some that did not appear in the movie adaptations, say devs Traveller’s Tales.

Taking place during the Second Age and based on maps from the original Tolkien novels, the game will attempt to offer a complete recreation of Middle Earth, with all the familiar locations and more.

You’ll be able to traverse the entirety of Middle Earth, or if you’re feeling a bit lazy, take advantage of an instant travel feature. "We wanted much bigger and better than just having hubs that lead to playthroughs of the films," said TT Games' Nick Ricks.

In addition to this, the game will also feature dialogue taken from the films themselves, snippets of which you can hear in the latest trailer.

LEGO: Lord of the Rings is out in Autumn 2012.

LEGO Lord of the Rings Delayed? Plus, Pre-Order Bonuses Outlined

GameStop has outlined the pre-order bonuses it’s offering for LEGO: Lord of the Rings and has revealed a potential delay in the process.

The latest bricktastic action adventure from Traveller’s Tales, LEGO Lord of the Rings was down for an October 30th release in the US. However, that date has now shifted to November 12th, according to the retailer.

In the blurb for the game’s pre-order bonuses, GameStop says, “Pre-order LEGO Lord of the Rings through November 12 and you will receive a special LOTR Middle-earth Weapons & Magical Items Pack with purchase.”

These items include The Whirlwind Axe, a Troll Mace Elrond's Circlet and more. Plus, when you pre-order LEGO Lord of the Rings, you'll receive the Elrond of the 2nd Age, Lord of Rivendell mini-figure. All of which is cool.

The delay, however, is not. We’ve contacted Warner Bros. for confirmation.
