Activision confirms Tony Hawk: Shred

Activision has confirmed that its new Tony Hawk game is called Shred.

"We can confirm we've given a name to the next Tony Hawk game - Tony Hawk: Shred - and more details will be revealed in the coming months," the publisher told Joystiq.

We assume that the new game will be out later this year. There's no official word on that, but if they're talking about it "in the coming months" then it's very unlikely that it's more than 6-8 months away.

Then again, this presumably isn't the point in time that Activision originally planned to talk about Shred, and that's thanks to Tony Hawk himself.

Earlier this week the Birdman tweeted: "Tony Hawk: Shred. There, I said it. Actually, I named it. Somewhere a PR team is reeling." The post was rapidly removed but not before the internet noticed.

Tony Hawk: Shred almost certainly uses the skateboard peripheral developed for last year's dreadful Tony Hawk: Ride, and hopefully to better effect.

Tony Hawk: Shred screens emerge
Activision drops six screens for the skate/snowboarding sequel...

Six screenshots for Tony Hawk: Shred have emerged.

Tony Hawk: Shred will feature snowboarding as well as skateboarding, with the screenshots split between both sports.

Of course, with Tony Hawk: Shred, it doesn't really matter how it looks. What's more important is how it plays and it'll be a while before we get to find that out for ourselves...

Pretty ropey looking.

SHRED FLOPS, SELL 3000 UNITS IN WEEK 1

Who saw this coming? Everyone? OH!

To put this in perspective, another recent FLOP is DJ Hero 2 which sold 59,000 in it's first 2 weeks.

The difference being DJ Hero is actually good, saying that though Rock Band 3 has flopped big time over here too.

I am waiting for the first kinect enabled skateboarding game, hopefully it will be EA's skate and not tony hawk that does one. You will be able to feel like you are actually skateboarding without having to purchase an expensive peripheral, which in my book is a huge plus.
