Can't wait for Shenmue 3

I hate jokes that rely on visual imagery.

I've had it right up to here with them.

i've tried those TJ they don't work, because the xbox needs to have some power through it for them to work (like on standby) which it doesn't. It works the other way around as you can leave the Sky box on standby.

To appease my personal obsessive nature, are you sure you connected everything correctly?  Here's a diagram showing how the wires should be connected, using a splitter like the one pictured above.

lovely diagram. exactly how i set it up.

NB:
Splitters work when one set of wires are attached.
Splitters work when two sets of wires are attached and power is supplied to both sky and the 360.
360 sound is heard with the sky player on (aswell as on standby).
The sky player can't be heard unless the 360 is switched on.

In that case, definitely go with the Selector, like the one Crak recommended.

It still seems strange you need both audio sources to be outputting in order to get only one to work.  But I'm sure there's a logical explanation.

Question:  Why does the Twilight Zone constantly run out of toilet paper?

Answer:  Doo doo doo doo.  Doo doo doo doo.  Doo doo doo doo ...
