In more troubling information for and from Japan:
Sony is being blocked from Restarting PSN in Japan "until the company can demonstrate that certain new security measures have been met" -The specific measures weren't detailed, due to, well, security.

:D

well this explains why im having trouble my be this is you problem to neto

In related news, I'm having an impossible time trying to reset my password for PSN / Qriocity.  I requested a password reset and was told they would email me the info within 24 hours.  I'm pretty sure it's been longer than 24 hours.  Maybe I'll have better luck trying to change it via my PS3?  I'll try when I get home tonight.

Note: PSN services are gradually being restored to different regions of the country and may not yet be active in your area. Please refer to this coverage map for updates. We thank you for your patience as we work to get you connected again.

    Update your password

NOTE: Please do not click the "Forgot your password" button multiple times as this will send a new email request to Sony for every button press. The system will lock you out for a rolling 24 hour period after the third request.
Due to the high volume of password reset requests, there may be a significant delay between pressing the "Forgot your password" button and receiving the password reset email so please be patient.
If you have pressed the "Forgot your password" button multiple times, use the temporary reset link from the LAST email you receive from Sony as it will contain the current and only valid link.

lol oops i think i locked my self out for 24hrs or so  :(

nCogNeato

I think I only requested a password reset twice.  Once yesterday and once again right before my last post.

Map updated 12:03m Pacific

Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but ...    that entire map looks like the same color.  I don't see anything illuminated.   :-\

Did my resetting late last night and got the email in about an hour, reset the password via my PC, but haven't tried to log back into PSN, will try later today.

The fact that it all went smoothly, has me worried for some reason.  :-\

The password reset can be exploited using information gathered in the initial attack.

I like my women how I like my coffee: ground up and in the freezer.

The doctors say his chances are 50/50... but there's only a 10% chance of that.

Good lord.   #)

I'm curious how they exploit the reset without actual access to your email account.  Maybe they discovered a way to generate the password reset link sent to your email?  I'd like to see this "video evidence".

So here's the next punch in the face:

It seems that gamers are experiencing crashes or freezes while playing L.A. Noire on PS3's So who's Rockstar pointing the finger at?

From the official Rockstar support forums:
(where the post has been since removed without explanation - but not before the post had been preserved by Eurogamer, which is where this is pulled from)

QuoteWe have received some reports of PS3s overheating while playing L.A. Noire or beeping three times before shutting down/turning themselves off, mostly on older 60GB and 80GB fat models.

Primary reports seem to be that updating to firmware 3.61 will cause PlayStations to overheat. There have been various reports of this on a few different games now, all reporting their PS3s turning off or 'Red Lighting' after having installed 3.61.

This can range from games randomly freezing to PS3s turning off anywhere between 30 mins use to two hours. We have confirmed locally that multiple games (Rockstar and non-Rockstar) overheat or freeze only when 3.61 is installed.

At this time we are recommending contacting Sony directly to report the overheating issue. However, this is not the end of our support; we are continuing to test L.A. Noire on all firmware versions and hardware models to isolate the issues and see what can be done. As always, we will update this article as soon as we have updates.

As a reminder, the 3.61 update relayed back to the PSN hack and is required as a security update to allow PS3 owners back onto the network with enhanced security features. So looks like Rockstar's taken off the gloves first and Sony has of course, disagreed, telling Eurogamer:

"We don't comment on rumours or speculation about our products."
