February wasn't the best of months for the industry in terms of software and hardware sales. PS3 did experience a 30 percent increase in sales over last year, but the industry on a whole realized another month of decreased sales compared to 2009. However in the midst of it all, the Xbox 360 manages, time and time again to defy the odds.
According to the NPD, "Xbox 360 nabbed the top-spot among the three console systems for the first time since September 2007 when Halo 3 as released."

News Microsoft will surely welcome and talk about in the days and weeks to come.

The novelty and excitement over the Wii is dwindling, and PS3s are currently VERY hard to find in stores for some reason (at least in the US).

I'm not surprised the 360 is on top right now, but I would also not be surprised if the PS3 takes the top spot by the end of the year if they keep releasing AAA exclusives and sort out their supply issues.

Microsoft has pointed out that Xbox 360 "continues to outsell the PlayStation 3", reports CVG.
THE US NPD results for May saw Xbox 360 shift a further 194,600 consoles in North America.

Microsoft puts the strong sales down to the new Xbox 360 slim while they also noted Xbox 360 "continues to outsell the PlayStation 3 at retail for the fifth consecutive year and every single month of 2010."
