Ubisoft will be showing off a new Driver game at E3, according to one of its own press releases.
Although rumours have been swirling about a new fully-blown Driver title for a few months now, Ubisoft has kept quiet and not officially announced anything.

Which is why it was strange to read the following line in Ubisoft's E3 press release: "Video games exhibited at the Ubisoft booth will include the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Shaun White Skateboarding, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier, the next iteration of the blockbuster franchise Driver, and many other titles that are yet to be announced."

So there is a new Driver game on the way, to the surprise of absolutely no-one. Fingers crossed it's more like the original games in the series and not the latter-day Driver entries...

Enjoyed the first game, you could even see Alcatraz on it, the others sucked.

Driver: San Francisco named

MCV reveals final name for new outing in Ubisoft's resurgent series

A senior games industry source has confirmed to MCV the name of the new entry in the Driver series that Ubisoft will be unveiling at E3 next week – Driver: San Francisco.

The moniker is not a huge surprise. A teaser video released earlier this week hinted that San Francisco – a big feature of the very first Driver game – would indeed be the location of the new outing.

It was also reported earlier this year that Ubisoft had registered the domain driversanfranciscogame.com.

The west coast US setting is an understandable choice for the game, with its assortment of steep slopes, iconic cable car system and the likes of recognisable prison Alcatraz offering up a great range of options for developer Ubisoft Reflections to work with.

Expect more details next week.

Driver was a great game the first time around.
Can't wait for Shenmue 3

I hate jokes that rely on visual imagery.

I've had it right up to here with them.

E3 2010: Driver: San Francisco screens screech in
Featuring cops, bridges and cars, as you'd expect...

Ubisoft has released the first official screenshots for Driver: San Francisco.

The game will take place in John Tanner's mind, as confirmed by our first Driver: San Francisco gameplay details.

However, you wouldn't know it from looking at these screens, which seems to feature the same selection of cool cars and cops chasing you that made the original a success to begin with.

Fingers crossed Driver: San Francisco is more like the original than it is the more recent additions to the series.  Amen to that  ;D

I've been seeing some TV ads for this game, but they just call it "Driver" instead of 'Driver: San Francisco".

That's going to cause confusion for new customers and longtime fans.

Driver Collector's Ed has yellow toy car

The PAL Collector's Edition of Driver: San Francisco comes with a yellow toy car and costs £70.

That's the RRP, although GAME has chopped that to £59.99, and HMV lowered to £64.99. They're the selected retail partners and they're taking pre-orders now.

The toy car is, more specifically, an 18x9x9cm replica of a 1970 Dodge Challenger. Also in the box is a map of San Francisco, codes for two in-game vehicles and a Mass Chase challenge.

More features are "yet to be unveiled".

Driver: San Francisco will be released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 during the fourth quarter of 2010. GAME reckons the date is 19th November, but that's likely to be a guesstimate at this point.

Driver: San Francisco dated for the UK

Driver: San Francisco will be released in the UK on 26th November for PC, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360.

Retailer GAME confirmed the date to Eurogamer as having come direct from Ubisoft. GAME is one of the two official pre-order partners for Driver: San Francisco.

Those pre-orders are open now and for £60 offer a yellow toy car, map and some in-game goodies.

Driver: San Francisco takes place inside the head of cop Tanner, who's fallen victim to a coma. In his dream he can drift out of his body to possess the driver of any other vehicle, and he can do so mid-chase.

I don't think it will be good. I will wait for the reviews

Driver delayed until 2011
Ubisoft announces that Reflections title will miss Christmas

Those hoping to grab Ubisoft's next-gen reworking of Driver look away now: The publisher has announced that it has been delayed into next year.

The news comes in Ubi's Q1 fiscal results, in which it announced estimated sales of EURO 160m for the three months to June 30, 2010.

It blamed "the competitive market at Christmas" for the delay in Driver: San Francisco's release.

The title will now launch during the fourth quarter of Ubisoft's fiscal year - between January 1st and March 31st next year.

Driver: San Francisco, developed by the firm's Reflections studio, is due for release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

#12
New Driver game "has more lines of dialogue than Mass Effect 2"
No comparable claims made relating to quality

Ubisoft Reflection's Martin Edmondson claims that in filling the world of the upcoming coma-racer Driver: San Francisco, his team have written more lines of dialogue than Bioware's space epic Mass Effect II.

"There are hundreds of characters in the game, that we've recorded. They all have their lives and their stories."

The new Driver game takes place inside the unconscious mind of John Tanner. One of the side effects of this is that Tanner quickly learns he can zoom out of his car and leap into virtually any other vehicle in the city, effectively possessing the driver.

More often than not, this will drop you into the middle of the conversation they were having. This creates a surprisingly intense script burden, for a game where you never physically leave your car.

"We spent days and days in the recording studio with every American-speaking actor who lives in the UK. Then we did some more stuff in LA."

Why didn't they get one voice actor to do a bunch of different voices? "That doesn't work. You think that it'd be a good way to save money, but it wears thin very quickly. So we did it properly."

During our brief hands-on, we Quantum-Leaped into another cop's body and helped apprehend a criminal by driving into him. "Now that's how to catch a felon," cooed our partner. "Hot Pursuit 101," replies Tanner, from another man's jowels.

And there's plenty more dialogue where that came from.

Why do they think all that dialogue is a selling point?

and has it been like 6 months since we last heard about Driver 5?
