3GB memory is standard and enough for surfing and general stuffy, so just buy one you like the look of and has a nice 'feel' when you type.

3GB RAM, 15.6 screen or bigger, HDD is your choice most are 150GB+, 2ghz+ should be enough. They're all standard specs pretty much and a brand new one at those specs would be about 400-450£

go for a used lap top with decent specs, or a new netbook. I don't know why i'm typing this advice to you on here, i could just tell you when you get home from work tonight.
