OK, totally un-gaming related thread:

I had two letters delivered to me for 'Charlie' and 'Sophie' today, to my address but with the wrong postcode. The postcode that was quoted was for an address half way across town and when I checked the road it applies to doesn't have house numbers going up as high as my house number so I'm guessing whoever sent them got the right road but wrong number and post code.

Short of knocking on everyone's door in my road (over 100 houses) has anyone got any (sensible) suggestions as how I can find the recipients. They're obviously birthday cards as one says "sorry it's late" and the other has an address in September on it so I don't want to just throw them away, and since there's no return address on the envelopes if I stick them back in the post box with "not known at this address" on them the Post Office will more than likely bin them as they have no way of knowing where they come from. Being the decent chap that I am I'd hate for two kids to lose out on some money or cheque that may be included in the card.

I'm pretty sure I can't open them to try and see if I can garnish any extra details as it's not my post so has anyone got any ideas?

Marty

PS, I know I should just bin them but I've had a shitty couple of weeks and if I can do a decent thing and get these cards to their owners I'd feel like I have done something good :)

Thank god for the new Tomb Raider, helped me de-stress after a tough week! More of the same please

BTW, I just realised I stuck this in the wrong section, can a mod move it to Odds and Ends please?

Done.   :)

Regarding the situation, I'd say bring it to your local post office and let them sort it out by pulling up names/address in the area.  However, I don't know if post offices work like that in the UK.

I live in an apartment building, and I'm often getting mail for people that either don't live there anymore, or the wrong address completely.

Thanks Neato.

Our Post Office is a bit rubbish tbh, I think they'd just bin it (although I may be wrong), and my local sorting office is a nightmare to get to, especially when I'm working during the times they're open. I may have to resort to some sort of stalker activity... Failed, any tips? ;)

Edit: "Woohoo", I am now "Beyond Awesome"  ;D

stick 'return to sender: wrong postcode' on the envelope and post it. it'll sort itself

Least if you do that you have done the right thing, just if the postal service bins it, they have done the wrong thing, not like they will care or anything:( Dang its my niece's birthday today, and I'd hate to know that happened to her. I wonder if you could actually ask someone at the postal service and tell them your dilemma, surely they have had this type of thing happen before and can point you in the right direction. Good Luck.

other than speaking to the post office i don't know what else to suggest.  A similar thing happened to me once, but it was addressed to my next door neighbour. So not the same at all really  :D

There's actually nothing you can do. The only person who knows where it's supposed to go is the one that sent it. And apparently they don't know either!  :-\

what Red's trying to say is open it and find the moneyz

You can always try your luck on Craigslist.

Post asking if anyone knows someone by that name that lives in that area that had a birthday recently.  Verify by opening the letter and having them answer who it was sent from.

EDIT:  Or maybe Facebook?
