Thanks to DaveChaos for the beta key. Managed to get some matches in, varying impressions so far.
The beta build is glitchy with the biggest problem being holes in the floor around the park area on Metro, medikits recharge too fast, should be slower exiting prone as well. The Op Metro map is kinda cool but the first two mcoms in the park are too open, so much so that it results in a snipers in the trees scenario. The action in the subway and then street and surrounding buildings is fast and more teamplay tends to happen.

The game feels excellent in the movement department , heavier than BC2 and going to your knees or dropping to prone is fast and fluid. The guns have some nice recoil and feel meaty. Seeing your feet as you vault over obstacles makes a lot of sense, and is not as silly as some have made out. Dogtag kills are so satisfying as well however the knife is used by pressing RB , personally I think it needs to be equipped.

The visuals although compressed look fantastic on 360 no matter what some others may have said. The grass actually looks decent! Destruction is of course in the beta to what extent I couldn't tell but there is a lot of environmental effects such dust and chippings coming from the walls after being shot at.

What surprised me about the 360 version of this map is that the whole of the lake is there and looks immense, conquest on this map will be interesting indeed. Metro is a little bit of a mish mash starting in a park then onto a subway and finally the last two stations in the streets.

Rush is not the best mode to show Battlefield at its best though. For metro a building in the centre of the park/ some pavillions may make it better and encourage players to attack the mcoms there.

The lighting and shadows are really nice as well and if they can do that for multiplayer imagine how the singleplayer/co-op will look.

The audio overall is excellent on the ''war tapes'' there is a lot of silence in the park with gunfire going off sporadically, there is a great sense of audio distance in the park, ie if someone is firing a gun far away you will hear it but it has that distant , well sound, you'll see what I mean. Opposite to that the close quarters of the subway leads to the guns having a louder bang, and finally the buildings in the streets have nice echo as the sounds bounce around the walls.

Odds and ends, the menu is not responsive enough when choosing your loadout and still random dc's.

Overall though impressed as hell, but tbh some of the bugs will have already been fixed, they are too big for Dice  not to have taken care of them already.

All I hope is that everybody else gets to play either tomorrow or soon after, and that the Ea servers don't have a meltdown.

So thanks to Dave again for the key and I hope you get to experience the game online at some point. Cheers I owe ya one BIG time!!!!  :)

Ok everyone, i decided to get BF 2, just to see what the hype is compared to CoD, now i know most of u wanna bag it and thats fine, i play it for what it is and just mute people. I have only played abt 20 mins so far and dont mind it, is MP any good?
What has been seen, cant be unseen...

best MP on LIVE. It'll take you a while to get into it though.

Windedprism

I think Im getting worse at Battlefield! The damage does seem to be high alright, prefer the close quarter parts of metro, Falling through the floor is funny though. Mcom station A to the left theres a crater made by an explosion and you can fall through the map!!
Flashlights are crazy strong as well.

Looking forward to downloading and playing this tonight.  Hoping the bad things I've read are just COD fanboys who dont know how to play.

Windedprism

I think a lot of the negative stuff has been from either Metro haters / high expectations of the final game and then they get a stripped down, compressed beta lol

I think that a lot of settings are intentionally too high so that Dice can see if players like certain things or not.

Caspian border has been getting a lot of praise though like chalk and cheese.

Most of their betas have had their haters including BF2 and Bc2 , example the scopes in the bad company 2 beta were very pixely and Bf2 got ripped by 1942 players but when the game released it was all ''oh my god, I knew Dice would pull through and deliver!''.

One good thing that this beta will bring hopefully is that because of the park on metro being hard to get kills on ,it will get rid of the Cod hangers on before the game is released.

yeh BC2 beta got lotsa hate, but look how that turned out! Beta's work, just check Gears 3 compared to Beta-less Gears 2.

Windedprism

Exactly Gears3 beta didn't impress me at all but the final release BAAM , close to perfection?
Played around with recon last night and made some great use the radio beacon, seem to be getting a more team effort now and the experience has been alot better especially in the park area.

I noticed the the glass on the scopes, well the svd anyway is really pixely lol

There should be a server update at some point today as well.

Started it yesterday, the logo tools are limited though so the one there atm is the start of something I hope. Otherwise it's a 5th  time to dump it.

Failed for captain I'm down with that, I just set her up to get it started.

Im not sure about any mod rights on it though, maybe someone can alter the logo when they join.

As you can see the logo is a bit meh, if anyone has any suggestions to make it better feel free.

Battlefield 3 BETA fixes.

These will not be added to the BETA but are fixes you will find in the final game.

As you are surely aware by now, the Battlefield 3 beta is available for free to Xbox LIVE Gold subscription members. The purpose of a beta test is to gauge server stress and performance, identify in game issues, refine weapons balancing and gather feedback on bugs that have slipped through the alpha test.

Based upon the feedback of the Xbox LIVE community, a number of fixes have been applied to the open beta to address some of the issues reported so far. Here's the extensive, though not exhaustive, list of changes that are now live:

Quote
* Fixed occasional client crash when reviving.
* Fixed killcam showing glitched area under map if your killer is dead.
* Issue with spawning on dead squad mates fixed.
* Fixed a bug where shooting at a moving enemy could cause more than the intended amount of damage.
* Crosshairs for shotguns have been replaced with a new, thinner, art.
* A subtle low health screen effect has been added.
* Tweaked scores of Medals and Service Stars.
* Tweaked the Rank progression.
* Pushing prone on console will not play the animation twice.
* Fixed loss of Squad Leader after EOR at some times.
* Framerate stability fixes.
* The 3D spotting icons has been tweaked to better match the target’s visibility. Icons will show frequently less on mostly obscured targets.
* Fixed issue with crosshair disappearing after round transition.
* Fixed issue with crosshair disappearing after trying to deploy while the countdown timer still active.
* Squad list now shows specializations chosen, VOIP activity and dead squad mates.
* Non working options in squad menu fixed: "Private" flag and "Switch Teams.

It's a wide ranging list, from small niggles being addressed to larger issues such as the variable frame rate some players were experiencing. DICE are requesting that people continue to provide feedback via the Battlelog forums so they may catch as many issues as possible.

Let's see how quick those that cancelled come back once they've finished MW3 in an afternoon and are tired of playing against 8 year olds online!
