Kinect confirmed for Forza 4
Good news? Bad news?

Looks like that E3 2010 Forza Kinect demo was indeed Forza 4.

Developer Turn 10 showed off F4 for the first time last night at the VGAs in Los Angeles. It's due for release in autumn next year.

An MS spokesperson subsequently told IGN: "We showcased a Kinect-enabled project from Turn 10 Studios at E3 2010, which let players explore and experience their dream cars like never before.

"That tech demo demonstrated some of the experiences possible with Kinect and Forza.

"Forza Motorsport 4 brings together genre-defining, controller-based racing and the power and freedom of Kinect to create an automotive experience unlike anything before it."

So... Kinect in Forza. Good idea or bad idea?

Forza 4 will be most realistic racer 'on any console' - MS
MS aims sights at Gran Turismo 5 with Kinect sequel

Microsoft's aiming its sights at Gran Turismo 5 with the just-announced Forza Motorsport 4, claiming the 360 sequel will be the most realistic racer "on any console".

The Kinect-enabled follow-up - which was announced this weekend for release in autumn 2011 - is already being hailed as "the definitive racing game of 2011" by its publisher.

"Forza Motorsport 4 will be the most expansive and vividly realistic automotive experience across any console, bringing you closer to the edge than you've ever been before," MS gushes in the game's announcement.

Through Kinect, players will be able to "step through the TV screen and jump into the driver's seat", while the controller-based experience will let you take on the "bone-jarring physics, unparalleled levels of customisation, and rosters of dream cars and tracks".

Turn 10 and Microsoft certainly aren't settling for second place then.

I'm not into racing games but this looks stunning (but not the box!)

Leaked Forza 4 video shows Top Gear Test Track
Forza debut for TV course - screens

Top Gear's famed Test Track - bane of celebrity drivers and their Reasonably Priced Cars - will appear in Forza Motorsport 4, according to a leaked "internal video".

The video in question surfaced on the internet on Friday, giving in-depth attention to the Kinect features we were promised back in December 2010.

Microsoft pulled it over the weekend, commenting that the footage "was not intended for public distribution and may not accurately reflect features and functionality that ship in Forza Motorsport 4".

Top Gear's iconic track is visible in one of the aerial sequences. We've uploaded a couple of captures (plus a Google Maps shot of the course in reality) for your consideration.

Obviously, this is a press release or two shy of official confirmation, so don't crack out the Jeremy Clarkson quotes just yet.

As a bonus to loyal players of Forza Motorsport 3, there will be a new feature introduced into the sequel. The Profile Import feature will add "gift cars" to your Forza Motorsport 4 garage, as well as bonus gifts and credits, but these are dependent on your player level and the cars in your garage in Forza Motorsport 3. The Livery Editor will also allow players to import all of the layers and liveries that they have spent hours creating in the previous game too.

Loyal Forza players who purchase the game within the first days of release can also look forward to a bonus included in the game. The in-game "Ship Bonus" car pack is limited to the first production run of Forza Motorsport 4 discs, and will include five exclusive cars for drivers to "race, tune, paint and share":

Forza 4 Kinect head-tracking trailered by Major Nelson

Turn 10's Dan Greenawalt has shown off Kinect head-tracking in Forza Motorsport 4 via Inside Xbox video segment Major's Minute, now viewable on Youtube.

Major Nelson goes hands on - or rather, hands off - with the game in the footage, turning his head to stare into the apex of each curve while driving a car.

This is exactly the kind of Kinect functionality we'd like to see more of - sensibly integrated with existing design. Take a look. According to Greenawalt, "it just works to the natural way you play".

I happen to know someone who saved a copy of that video  ;)
When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep...... Not screaming, like the passengers in his car.

Official Ferrari racing wheel for Forza 4

An official Ferrari-sanctioned racing wheel is coming to the Xbox 360 this October to coincide with the release of Forza Motorsport 4.

Modeled on Forza 4 cover car the Ferrari 458 Italia, the 28cm diameter wheel has a rubber-textured grip, eight action buttons, D pad, home button, headset connector port and a "Manettino" dial which lets you modify certain in-race settings.

Under the hood, a "Bungee Cord" centring system offers "progressive" resistance over a 270 degree angle, while the accompanying pedal base boasts a footrest, long-stroke accelerator and resistant brake pad.

Manufacturer Thrustmaster hasn't announced a price yet, but we do have a picture of the thing below.

Peripheral-hungry race fans have a choice to make though. As revealed back in June, Microsoft is also launching its own in-house wheel round about the same time.

The Turn 10-developer Forza Motorsport 4 guns its engines from 14th October.

It's be confirmed that the Warthog is NOT drivable in game. It is only in the feature of Forza 4 that lets you get out and walk around the cars and look at the detail.
