Steve Pink to direct Bad Santa 2
Billy Bob Thornton returning as Willie

Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink has signed on to direct foul-mouthed festive follow-up Bad Santa 2.

A sequel to Terry Zwigoff’s 2003 black comedy, Bad Santa 2 will see Billy Bob Thornton reprising his role as a boozy conman who dresses up as Father Christmas.

Pink will also write the sequel’s script, having impressed previously with his screenplays for John Cusack vehicles Grosse Pointe Blank and High Fidelity.

Could that mean Cusack will get a role in the sequel? Considering Pink’s work with him in the past, we like those odds. Cusack as a yammering drunk? We’re up for that.

Pink could have a hard time keeping up with the first film’s infamously filthy shenanigans, mind - Bad Santa contained 159 iterations of the ‘F’ word, and 300 swear words in total.

With writing yet to commence on the sequel, no plot details are available, but it’s pretty safe to bet that Willie will be back boozing as usual.

Bad Santa 2 opens in cinemas in 2013.

Joss Whedon Signs On to Direct, Write 'Avengers 2'

Joss Whedon has signed to write and direct "The Avengers 2," Disney Chairman Bob Iger said Tuesday.

In addition, Whedon will create a "Marvel-based" series for ABC, Iger said during a conference call with analysts.

Whedon wrote and slid behind the camera on "The Avengers," which Iger called a "phenomenal success" during the call. The adaptation of the Marvel Comics series has grossed nearly $1.5 billion worldwide.

Whedon's script and direction were praised by critics and fans for their light and often humorous touch.

Thanks largely to "The Avengers,"  the income at Disney's studio unit jumped to $313 million from $49 million a year earlier, during its most recent fiscal quarter. Overall, net income across all of Disney's divisions jumped 24 percent to $1.8 billion for the period.

Since purchasing Marvel for $4 billion three years ago, Disney has leaned heavily on the comic book maker as one of the pillar's of its business, believing that the films it makes with its library of heroes will drive not just box office, but also revenue from theme park rides and toys.

Its upcoming film slate is peppered with films featuring the various characters from "The Avengers." Due out in 2013 are  "Iron Man 3" and "Thor: The Dark World." The next year will bring "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," and "Guardians of the Galaxy," a new super-group film.

Keanu Reeves talks Bill & Ted 3
Duo will be "crushed by responsibility"

With Galaxy Quest helmer Dean Parisot newly confirmed to direct, it looks as though progress on Bill & Ted 3 is coming along nicely. Keanu Reeves has taken the time to drop a few new details about what the new film will involve, with our heroes apparently finding themselves "crushed by responsibility".

"We have a nice story," said Reeves in a recent interview with GQ. "We’ll see if anyone else wants to make it." The star was then asked about the various challenges of imagining Bill and Ted as middle-aged men…

"It’s one thing to think about it, but to perform it…" admits Reeves. "One of the plot points is that these two people have been crushed by the responsibility of having to write the greatest song ever written and to change the world. And they haven’t done it. So everybody is kind of like: 'Where is the song?'"

"The guys have just drifted off into esoterica and lost their rock," he continues. "And we go on this expedition, go into the future to find out if we wrote the song, and one future 'us' refuses to tell us, and another future 'us' blames us for their lives because we didn’t write the song, so they’re living this terrible life. In one version we’re in jail; in another we’re at some kind of highway motel and they hate us."

Plenty of time-travelling antics as ever, then. Let's hope that little summary piques a studio's interest, and we get to see the Wyld Stallyns reunited sooner rather than later.
