More Pie for Biggs and co?
Teen franchise gets big screen resurrection...

Fact: the American Pie series has degenerated into a slew of grossly unfunny DTV sequels.

But word on the Hollywood street is that a fourth 'official' American Pie movie – i.e. one involving all of the original characters like Stifler, Jim, Oz, Nadia and Michelle – is on the cards over at Universal.

The studio is looking to resurrect the cinema end of the franchise while all-but ignoring the turd-like DTV follow-ups that did the series little favours.

Screenscribes Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, who penned the Harold And Kumar films, have been approached to write American Pie 4.

The last big screen outing for the Pie series was American Wedding way back in 2003. Four DTV spin-offs followed, the last of which - The Book Of Love - was released last year. Nobody noticed. Eugene Levy is the only actor who has appeared in all seven. These guys are pretty shocked about that...

So, where would a fourth 'true' Pie flick go?

Speculation is rife that it could centre around a 10 year high school reunion (American Reunion?), or simply pick up Jim and Michelle's lives as they hit a bump in their marriage (could kids be on the table? eating pie?)...

No stars are attached just yet, but Biggs hasn't made a decent film since, well, 2003. We expect all of the former leads will gladly come running back for another helping.

Affleck! Damon! Together Again!
Duo setting up shop at Warner Bros.

Dear Lord, has it really been thirteen years since Matt Damon and Ben Affleck burst onto the scene with their self-penned, self-starring, Oscar-bothering indie drama Good Will Hunting? Has it really been twelve years since they bounced around on stage at the Oscars like two Liverpool fans who'd finally discovered how to spell Unirea Urziceni, having just won Best Original Screenplay? Has it really been over a decade since they worked together on a feature film (and no, the Project Greenlight stuff doesn't count)?

Yes, it has. But that's all moot now, for Affleck & Damon are back back back. Or maybe it's Damon & Affleck. Either way, the duo is in talks with Warner Bros. to enter into a first-look producing deal with the studio.

At present, no further details are forthcoming, but The Hollywood Reporter says an official announcement should arrive once the deal is sealed. That should be in a few days.

Of course, whether this means that Damon/Affleck will resume their writing partnership is unknown. But we hope so – the duo have been talking about a second script for ages now, and maybe this deal will give them the impetus they need.

Either way, though, they're two of the most intelligent guys around, so we expect exciting things from this deal. In fact, we expect movies so thrilling that they'll make us dance around like Liverpool fans who've just discovered how to pronounce Unirea Urziceni.

Ian McShane Will Be Blackbeard
He's Pirates 4's new villain!

Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides just took a turn for the better – Ian McShane is now locking in a deal to play the movie's villain, Blackbeard.

If he signs on, he'll play opposite Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow as the dastardly baddie that Jack will need to face off against on his quest to locate the Fountain Of Youth.

With Penelope Cruz already setting sail, director Rob Marshall is slowly filling his ship as he prepares to shoot this summer.

We have just one regret about McShane as Blackbeard in such a family-friendly franchise. He won't be able to deploy the lyrical, filth-studded swearing he enjoyed on Deadwood...

Christoph Waltz for Inglourious Basterds (2009)

I was very happy to see him win.  Easily one of the best movie villains I've ever seen.  Waltz was fantastic.  I look forward to seeing more of him in the future.

Me too Neato, he's fantastic in Inglourious Basterds & now adds the Oscar to his Golden Globe and BAFTA, great year for Christoph Waltz  :)

I watched it for the first time last night.  I cried like a baby.   :-[

Up is a great movie, the montage at the start where we see the life of Carl & Ellie is as good as anything you'll see in a live action movie, great story telling, the rest is classic Pixar, unlike Dreamworks, they never make a bad movie and long may it continue.  I don't think it'll be long before a Pixar film actually wins Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
