Only just heard about this:

Charles Napier R.I.P.
The Blues Brothers star has died

Charles Napier, star of The Blues Brothers, The Silence Of The Lambs and Philadelphia died yesterday at the age of 75.

Reports from at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, California, do not mention his cause of death, but he had been taken to hospital in previous years over issues with blood clots in his legs.

The much-loved tough guy character actor is perhaps best remembered for his role as Tucker McElroy in The Blues Brothers and his immortal line, "You're gonna look pretty funny tryin' to eat corn on the cob with no fuckin' teeth!"

Also seen as General Hawk in the first two Austin Powers movies, he's appeared in everything from out-and-out comedy to more serious dramas.

Die hard fans will know him from roles in TV shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm, Diagnosis Murder, and more recently, Archer, where he voiced the character of Dr. Spelts.

With a back catalogue many actors working today would be very jealous of, he's kept himself very busy indeed over the years, making his abrupt farewell all the more difficult.

He is survived by his two sons, Hunter and Whit, and his daughter, Meghan. He will be sorely missed.

75's not a bad age to go. Old enough to think, yeh 75 isn't too bad and young enough to still have people around to go to the funeral.

The Simpsons Stars Agree to Pay Cutsâ€"and Get a Two-Year Lease on Life!

Mr. Burns would say "excellent." But he's probably the only one.

The Simpsons' six principal vocal talents have agreed to a pay cut in order to keep the pioneering, record-setting show on the air past its current 23rd season. And sure enough, after the back room dealing was over, Fox proudly announced that it had renewed The Simpsons for a 24th and 25th season.

Meanwhile the salary cut was not the reported 45 percent that Fox was looking to slash from the budget, But guess who's willing to take a 70 percent(!) cutâ€"in exchange for what he feels he and his fellow actors are rightly owed, of course?

"The Fox people said [there were] simply no circumstances under which the network would consider allowing me or any of the actors to share in the show's success," said Harry Shearer, aka Mr. Burns, Smithers, Principal Skinner, Ned Flanders, et al., in a statement to E! News.

"As a member of the The Simpsons cast for 23 years, I think it's fair to say that we've had a great run and no one should feel sorry for any of us. But given how much joy the show has given so many people over the yearsâ€"and given how many billions of dollars in profits News Corp. has earned and will earn from itâ€"I find it hard to believe that this is Fox's final word on the subject.

"At least I certainly hope it isn't, because the alternative is to cancel the show or fire me for having the gall to try to save the show by helping Fox with its new business model. Neither would be a fair resultâ€"either to those of us who have committed so many years to the show or to its loyal fans who make our effort worthwhile."

Letting Shearer go would leave quite a few people (fictional and otherwise) speechless, that's for sure.

Since 2008's round of raises, he and fellow stars Dan Castellaneta, Hank Azaria, Julie Kavner, Yeardley Smith and Nancy Cartwright were each making a reported $400,000 per episode.

Yesterday, the series' top producers agreed to a paycut, but they already have the back-end dealsâ€"a cut of the royalties from merchandise, syndication and other revenue streamsâ€"that Shearer and his costars have been seeking for themselves.

She could be just as steamed as Shearer, but Cartwright put things a little differently Friday: "The Simpsons is a remarkable chronicle of our times. I've wanted to do this since I was 16!  And I want to keep doing it until I am 86!  Long live The Simpsons."

And to think, Bart Simpson still won't have aged a day.

Sony buys the film rights to Steve Jobs authorised biography
Book's release date brought forward

Sony Pictures is in the midst of making a deal to secure the movie rights to upcoming authorised biography, Steve Jobs.

Deadline has the report, which claims the deal is '$1m against $3m', with Mark Gordon in line to produce.

The book, by Walter Isaacson, was initially scheduled to be released on 21 November, but that has now been bumped forward to 24 October.

It was apparently written with Jobs' full support, with the man himself giving over 40 interviews, and friends, family members and colleagues also contributing.

In light of the seismic impact news of Jobs' death had around the world this week, the book will no doubt be an enormous pre-Christmas seller.

It hardly seems a surprise that a Jobs biopic would be in the works, as tributes have described him as an 'visionary', 'iconoclast' and 'genius', and the story of his career rise takes in adversity, tension, rivalry and, finally, ridiculous success.

As Deadline points out, Sony would seem to be an ideal fit with the material, having recently worked wonders with business stories The Social Network and Moneyball.

Expect this to be fast-tracked into production.

Let's hope that once it's released it's not then re-released every few months with a few tweaks!   ;)

That.  Is.  Fantastic!

If/when The Simpsons does get cancelled, I hope FOX has their fallout shelters prepared.  The internet will demand blood.

Failed

I'd cancel The Simpsons and redo it in 10-20years time with new voice actors and hit up a whole new generation of people and a lot of nostalgic people too.

Kane & Lynch movie poster seen at Cannes

The Kane & Lynch movie project appears to be moving smoothly -- it's to the "poster" stage already. Proving beyond a doubt that the casting is a "done deal"(as tweeted by writer  Kyle Ward), Empire spotted a Kane & Lynch movie poster with billing for both Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx at the Cannes Film Festival. This poster covers the entrance to the Majestic Hotel, making it look a bit more like the Tacky Hotel.

According to Empire, the poster gives the film a 2011 date, but we don't see it. Perhaps it's behind that inconsiderately placed luggage cart.

A better look at that poster:

Still not convinced of the Jamie Foxx casting - hopefully this doesn't get turned into some "buddy" crook PG-13 flick.

Oddly enough [imdb] still lists this as being due out in 2013.

Don Johnson signs for Tarantino's Django Unchained
Plays plantation-owning slave prostitute pimp

Don Johnson has signed up for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, but it took a hell of a lot of persuading.

Tarantino has spent the past four months convincing Johnson to take on one of the script’s most controversial parts, and it seems he’s finally got his man.

Despite the fact Johnson’s already played a racist in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete, Don considered Unchained’s Spencer Bennett even more irredeemable and was wary of taking on the role.

Which is fair enough â€" Bennett is a rich plantation owner who forces his slaves into prostitution. Not exactly the sort of man you'd want to be associated with for the rest of your life.

But unless Don changes his mind (as Kevin Costner seemed to last month) he’ll join what’s shaping up to be an incredible cast, who will be delivering what's arguably Tarantino's best script.

Which, when you consider the fact Don's last film was Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star, will make a very nice change.

Massive Tarantino fan so i'm very much looking forward to this, confirmed cast so far includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, Jamie Foxx and Samuel L. Jackson (of course) Kurt Russell and Treat Williams are also rumoured.   :)
