Rift, formerly known as Heroes of Telara and Rift: Planes of Telara, is a 3D fantasy MMORPG developed by Trion Worlds (also formerly known as Trion World Network).


Rift is set in the fantasy world of Telara, a land that is being continuously torn apart by dimensional rifts. These rifts play an important role in the game's unique dynamic events system, whereby players or developers can trigger key events that can have significant effects on the game world, ranging anywhere from minor events to events that alter the game's landscape or even open up new areas.

Causing alot of buzz, expected to do well when released, have been playing beta for a few months now and has potential but im still sitting on the fence.

The rifts themselves remind me of public quests from WAR.

The beta wasn't too bad from what I played.

GameInformer had a little blurb article a month or so ago promoting Guild Wars 2 and Rift as the future of MMO's.

Other than that, the only thing I know of Rift is their E3 booth babes.

I liked the public quests from WAR, but an MMO has to provide me with something substantially new and different for me to be interested these days.

The RIFT beta continues this week with the next beta event, Battle of the Ascended, which is set to begin Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 at 10:00 AM PST (18:00 GMT) and run through 10:00 AM PST (18:00 GMT) on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011..

Follow these instructions to join this beta event:

   1. Sign into your Trion Worlds account.
   2. Click the "Download Client" link from your account page.
   3. Run the installer and follow the directions.
   4. Run the Patcher: Navigate to where you installed RIFT in the START menu and click the PLAY RIFT shortcut. Enter the Email Address and Password used for your Trion Worlds account and log in

If its the future of mmorpgs then the future doesnt look good, the rifts are ok and are exactly like war's public quests, was really dispointed as during the build-up to beta theres was talk of dynamic rifts appearing at random throughout the world, reality they appear at set locations.... rift has been hyped to the nines and i just dont see anything special or different than 90% of mmorps out there.

think wow+war and you get Rift.
