Gears of War movie being "scaled back"?

The Gears of War movie adaptation may not turn out to be the big blockbuster that was planned, according to the LA Times.

The newspaper quotes "sources" as saying that the story and budget for the movie have been "scaled back". In addition, Len Wiseman - who previously directed Live Free or Die Hard and Underworld - is no longer set to oversee the project.

"The studio has now cut the budget, going from a film that would have cost more than $100 million to one that will cost a good chunk less than that," reports the Times.

"It's also reined in the story, turning it into a more simple, straight-ahead invasion story instead of a sprawling epic. Producers are looking for a new writer to handle all this, but haven't found one yet. And Wiseman, while technically still attached, will likely not be a part of it when all is said and done."

There had also been talk of Kate Beckinsale, who is married to Wiseman, appearing in the movie - but now that deal appears to be off the table too.

Neither Epic Games or film studio New Line have commented on the report.

I recently watched Pandorum for the first time. The movie was okay, but the female lead was FAN-TASTIC!

Antje Traue. She's like a young, badass, German Kate Beckinsale. I hope Hollywood doesn't let her go to waste.

Gears of War movie gets reborn
Cliffy B reveals that project is restarting from scratch

Epic lead designer Cliff Bleszinski has revealed that the Gears of War movie lives on - and that the project is being restarted from scratch.

The film adaption of Epic's wildly popular third-person shooter hit a wall when director Len Wiseman left the project earlier this year.

His departure brought work on the film to a standstill - until now. Bleszinski confirmed at Comic-Con that Epic is going back to look at the script and starting from scratch.

The aim is to re-work the story and bring down the budget of the movie. Bleszinski rather candidly said that the original $100 million budget was putting studios off.

He reference District 9 as an influence - which originally started life as the Halo movie.

Well I'll watch it regardless of who directs it well ummm Uwie Bowe or M. Knight I dunno if I would watch lol, but hey it has gears of war in the title, may still watch if just for shits and giggles lol. I hope it turns out awesome and yeah scaling back the budget would mean they could focus more on story which would be great to keep it as true to the game as possible
