I am keen to get this as I like a good challenge. Completing Ng black on the original Xbox was another harsh but fair test. I just have a feeling that in a couple of weeks there will be hundreds of copies of this available second hand as people won't like the challenge and it will be easy go pick up a cheap copy

Yup thats what i was thinking, the game is awesome, currently have it from lovefilm but can see me putting alot of time into it so gonna wait for the inevitable second-hand copies.

Also i love the messages you can leave ingame for others to read, the "Good Luck" message puts you on edge expecting something happen.

Good point, the limited edition is still available for 39.99 as well. So not a major seller, this game looks, sounds and feels evil.

lol my thoughts exactly.  I predict a lot of people (kids) will give up and trade it in for Call of Duty or something.

Interesting thing is though it seems to be getting pushed by strategize on the dash and it's getting some attention , a good sign.

And then there's this. Gotta love the writer's enthusiasm in this piece :)

Fell victim to my hype once again and bought the Limited Edition, should be in the mail on Tuesday. All that's left now is prepare myself for a lot of dying  :o

Grok1122

No hype here, all fact.

I finally decided to purchase this after being on the fence about it for a while. Havent bought an adventure title in a while so I figured what the hell. I was pretty sharp back in the days of Ninja Gaiden (Xbox) but this gameplay seems somewhat slower paced (but still difficult) and also has the RPG elements in there, which I enjoy. So now, it's in the mail.

Sooo... does anybody have comments on starting classes or whatever? How much freedom do you have to play your own style or does min-maxing become too necessary?

Grok1122

Starting class doesn't have a huge effect as you can pretty well go in any direction from any starting class pretty easily.  That being said, I would recommend pyromancer or wanderer to start.  The former starts with fireballs, which are useful for the entire game, and the latter is well-rounded.   I am in the mid-game, have upgraded my pyromancy to level 10+ and it is extremely useful.

Also consider bumping your dexterity or intelligence in the early game to use bows or sorcery, as having a ranged option is very useful.  Definitely do-able without, but it helps early on.

Lastly, your level in the game isn't really of too much consequence.  I've heard of a lot of people who stop leveling up in the 40's, and can go through the game just fine.  I'm 50+ right now and I will say it makes invading/being invaded extremely difficult, as the people at that level are crazy good.

Hope this helps.

I've heard the starting equipment and stuff can be especially relevant to the early part of the game. I was thinking of trying the thief because I like a combat rogue style of play and I also heard they start with a master key, but the lack of heavy armor, weaponry, and HP seems pretty terrifying from everything I have heard. A thief would start with high Dex right? I would have to focus more on increases other stats then?

Also, how much trouble is being invaded by other players? Does it frustrate the game experience?

Grok1122

You can get the master key as any class. Heavy armor and health are overrated, they're only going to marginally help you.

Getting invaded doesn't happen often, it's pretty rare. It can be thrilling and frustrating when it does happen.
