Failed isn't a fan of Fallout & Oblivion and such titles, he loves them about as much as I love MW2.

From what I've gathered, Id insists the game is not an RPG.  It is an 'open-world' action FPS.  My guess is the gameplay is going to be like BioShock 2 in an world similar to Borderland's.

There is going to be a weapon-building-customization element in the game, but it is going to be seemlessly integrated (eg. BioShock) as opposed to the manual requirements in Fallout 3.

RAGE is 'beauty over brains'
'Jaw-dropping FPS lacks new ideas', says XBW

RAGE is "one of the best looking games on the horizon" according to Xbox World 360 magazine - but could fall down in the ideas department.

'id's previous big hitters - Doom 3, for instance - were criticised in some quarters for merely presenting a prettier version of the corridor shooters that came before it,' XBW explains.

'There are shades of this when RAGE blocks off the open world and gets a bit linear.'

According to the preview RAGE recycles old ideas like electrocuting water to take out multiple enemies and so could struggle to set itself apart from the pack come release.

Ultimately though it sounds like XBW doesn't mind a bit of the same old, same old when it comes to an id FPS:

'If RAGE is little more than a loud recap of ten years of first-person shooting evolution, then who better to pay homage to the genre than the developers who nigh-on invented it?'

Rage is on my 'one to watch out for' list, if it score semi decent reviews i will rent it, anything above an average of 8.5 though and i will purchase it. I love id, doom 3 on the original xbox is still one of my all time fave games.

I've heard they are doing cool things in the AI department, and there are Serious Sam style boss battles. So yeah, I'm in.

Also, please please please don't make this anything like that piece of trash Borderlands. Worst shooter I've ever played. It might as well have been a clothes shopping sim, because the main focus of the gameplay was clearly on trying on different colored equipment, and not on shooting and being fun.

I didn't like Borderlands either, played it for a few hours but just couldn't really get into it.

The key to unlocking Borderland's funbox is in the co-op.  Different classes working together to take down unfairly overpowered bosses is deliciously rewarding.  That and the infinite weapons generator keeps compulsive looters glued to the game far longer than they should.

Played it through with all 4 player coop with 3 real life buddies, and they had to drag me through the last couple hours 'cuz I was so done with the game by then.

i had the same weapon from level 20 to level 50, i can put a clip into almost any enemy and put them down in 2 secs. So i was gutted i could never find a better weapon, was fun trying random rocket launchers, snipers etc. ... but i always go back to my pistol. Only problem is getting close enough to an enemy to lay a clip into them >_< Hunter doesn't have the mostest health!

Looks like this is being played on a gamepad, so this may be the Xbox360 build. Either way, when he sticks that knife at 0:18 I shed tears of joy.

reminds me of Doom 3 and Quake and Unreal, as thoug hit's made by similar peoples
