When Internet trolling goes rampant

When Gears of War 3 was announced at the start of the month, one thing that struck me was how negative some people were about it. It was just a minute long teaser to get people excited about the game, but plenty of haters stood up to say how the 'new features' sucked and how bad it looks.

I have to wonder how quickly one can rip apart a game that he hasn't even seen, so I rounded up some of the dumbest comments about it from across the Internet.

1) "Basically, like Halo, and Crysis and.....so on and so on, they have just gone. Hey, we need an impartial enemy that has no real point that just attacks every one, aka flood, aliens...."

To say that the Lambent have no real point is really missing the point about how game franchises evolve. Of course, Epic has to introduce new enemies in a sequel, because people want new things to fight. It's not as if the Lambent have come out of nowhere either, they appeared in less evolved forms in both the previous games.

2) "They are giving Dom too much emotion. The last few Gears Trailers he's came off like a complete ******."

I can't think of many people who would be full of bravado having just shot their own wife in the head.

3) "Why are there no British Gears?"

Considering that the game is set in the future on a planet in the outer reaches of the galaxy, it doesn't exactly matter that no-one on Sera comes from the UK.

4) "I don't like teabaggin because for one, it's to another guy character. Two, because I'm not under the age of 14."

This comes from a thread about how excited people are that they'll finally get to teabag female cogs. Sigh.

5) "Lets try to shoot for somewhere less then a billion bugs and glitches, OK?"

So the game has had one trailer and apparently it's going to be the buggiest game ever. Gears 2 had quite a lot of problems online, but Epic has a good reputation over the years - its games are mostly solid.

6) "I would have been pissed if I stayed up for that trailer. No actual gameplay."

The point of these announcement trailers is to get people excited about the game, there's plenty of time over the next year to see what the game looks like running.

7) "This game is way too grey"

This seems like the most widespread complaint about the trailer - but what were people expecting? It's not as if the first two games were bright and cheerful, so why would this one be? Someone else took issue with this last point so I'll leave you with this parody trailer that makes the whole thing a little less grey and a little more red.

Well it was until they started blagging me to pre-order some crappy Halo game and then said I should buy ODST to get the Beta for said crappy Halo game, I turned them down quicker than Mourinho will turn Liverpool down when the Fat Spanish Waiter leaves them for Juventus in the summer.
