When i used to clan game a K/D of 1.5 or above was considered respectable and would probably get you trials! mine is so bad, all i do is run in head on and fight for the objective but at the expense of my K/D.

Retro + Sawed-Off are my weapons of choice.  

I had a blastee last night playing with Shakes, Elle, and Crimson.  I think I played the Beta for nearly 5 hours straight, which I never thought I would do.  King of the Hill is definitely what I needed.  Looking forward to trying CTL after work.

Yeah, we really tore it up last night. I loves me some Retro + Sawed Off. I was pulling off some insane rounds (40+ kills), and unlocked my favoritist execution ever, the Scorcher's Fire in the Hole.

You can run into a crowd with the sawed-off, fire it to get your guaranteed kill (or two), then mash the A-button and dance around while you active reload before firing another shot off. You are so damn hard to hit, especially with a gnasher, when you are flipping around and bouncing off of walls randomly.

Also the retro-lancer, when blind fired at close range, functions almost as well as a gnasher being blind fired at close range. You can do the same shotgun dance you would do with the gnasher, and as long as they don't get into kissing distance and explode you in one shot, you will actually win most gnasher vs retro lancer fights.

It has for me.  I played only Ranked matches when I first got on the Beta.  But I had trouble finding a game one night, so I tried the Public matches.

From what I can tell, the only difference between Ranked and Public are that Public use bots to fill empty slots (which allows players to join a match mid-game), and Ranked matches require a full team of players.  Ever since, I've been playing Public and having a much better experience.

Unlockables and XP seem to be the same, but anyone is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong.
