Cliff Bleszinski on Gears of War future, would love to "reboot" Unreal
"We could be faced with the console transition at some point."

If Epic makes another game in the Gears of War franchise - highly likely given its success - the developer will make sure it feels "fresh and new".

"In the future, who knows?" Epic design director Cliff Bleszinski said during a VGA press conference following the announcement of Fortnite.

"We could be faced with the console transition at some point. We would certainly love to make more experiences in the Gears universe. If we get around to it, I want to make sure we switch it up sufficiently so it still feels like Gears DNA, but it feels fresh and new."

Xbox 360 exclusive Gears of War 3 launched to critical and commercial acclaim. It sold over three million copies worldwide during its first week on sale. The franchise has generated over one billion dollars in sales.

Bleszinski once again stressed that Gears remains closely linked to Xbox maker Microsoft - casting doubt on the possibility of the franchise ever appearing on a Sony console.

"It's technically capable, but we have a good deal with Microsoft, so that's the home of Gears for the foreseeable future," he said.

"Business is business man. We could speculate about anything. What if streaming online services decided they wanted to make a great deal with us? Then Gears would be a streaming game. But as of right now, Microsoft's been an amazing partner for us."

Bleszinski said he hoped the stonking success of Gears of War 3 would help drag the announced movie project out of "development limbo". "It's still in a little bit of a movie development limbo right now," he said, "but hopefully with the success of 3 we'll see it poke back up."

During the press conference Bleszinski was asked about the future of Unreal, an Epic-owned franchise that has gone dark in recent years.

The outspoken developer said he would love to reboot it - but the chances of him doing so seem low.

"I will tell you right now, if you could magically double Epic's team temporarily and just build another game like that I would love to do it," he said.

"I've had all sorts of crazy ideas. I think it would be amazing to reboot the original Unreal with a Fallout/Skyrim vibe, where it's more about exploration than it is about action, and more RPG elements.

"But we're a slave to our success with games like Gears and Infinity Blade. Thankfully we're able to craft a new IP with something like Fortnite right now."

Q&A Answers!

Q1 - Can we have the ability to use more than 3 Mutators - Probably, unlikely because coding is possible but needs man power.
Q2 - Why can't our preferred character come up on Quick Matches - You can only become one of the characters in memory (Marcus/Drone). They can't keep all 60 characters in Memory, you need to load them up yourself.
Q3 - Will over the top view of the HoD be in Horde - No, impossible. RAAM's Shadow exclusive. Can't be done.
Q4 - Any more exp events for Gears 2 - Absolutely, want people to get Gears 2 wings. There will be over Christmas Holidays
Q5 - Any chance of Jacinto returning - There's a chance.
Q6 - If you decide to announce Skorge will he have the Gears 2 bra - Bra jokes.
Q7 - What happened to the music in Checkout from the beta - Memory concerns (Speculation) When things were added (Easter Eggs) They needed memory.
Q8 - Will A. Carmine ever get his original lines back - Don't know, harder to fix than Rod originally thought. There was a mix up with the lines.
Q9 - What's up with the Kryll being out in daylight - RAAM's soul is so dark he provides enough for the Kryll to survive (joke) sky is being inked. They're needed to make the game funner.

The DLC is live but it seems to be charging Season Pass holders, so might need to wait a bit until the problem is fixed, typical!

Also, we've got two new weapon skins, i'm guessing for the Gearsmas event, Candy Cane and Mint.

It's free for Season Pass holders as we've already paid upfront, people without the pass are already playing the DLC has it's on the marketplace for 1200MSP, some idiots over at Epic's forums have bought the DLC for said price despite already having the pass!

I see , I thought the pass gave you a 33% discount. Is it not downloadable from ingame?. I read about a crossover of marketplace and season pass, where marketplace would charge full price, that was on the command pack though even if you had the pass.

Could be just a fck up probably MS' side though!

33% discount is right, but obviously you pay 2400MSP upfront for the 4 DLC packs, if you buy them without the pass you'll be looking at 3600!

When you boot up the game the pass kicks in and asks you to download the DLC without any fee, but it's linking you to the DLC and still asking for 1200MSP, it's definitely a problem on Microsoft's side. Should be resolved soon, some people just don't have any patience!

Ah ok, that explains it better. I was thinking whats the point in the pass if you just get a discount, it works out more in the end. That makes more sense. I'll have to add that pass to the list so

Playing as RAAM is too good to resist!

Epic's Cher has said that the season pass/RAAM problem is being worked on right now but she has no idea on how long it will take, MS mentione anything up to 24 hours!
