XBL Entertainment Services
« on: October 05, 2011, 01:16:58 PM »
It's been a long time coming but finally announced a load of new partnership deals.  Highlights for UK are BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Lovefilm.

Full story here, too much information to post so go and check it out.

I'm very happy about the Lovefilm news and the missus will be happy about BBC, although no specific mention of 'iplayer'.

The future of network programming begins here.  The sooner content providers open their programming to streaming services, the sooner pirates can find more rewarding hobbies.

So currently quite a few of the above don't require Gold, let's hope it stays that way.

LoveFilm on the 360 is great news, it works well on PS3 but I rarely use my PS3, it'll get used far more on the 360.   :)

These give me the tinglies.

Comcast makes up a huge % of network programming in the US (Viacom being the other).  It's a shame they didn't get Viacom, but it's still a huge step in the right direction.

If HBO Go is included with no seperate subscriptions (ie. Hulu / Netflix) AWESOME!  If it requires a current subscription to HBO, they can eat a bag of d*cks.   :P

iHeartRadio is something the US has been asking for a lot.  It let's you listen to real radio stations (not like Last.fm / Pandora) via the web.  I personally dislike commercial radio, but more power to `em.

BBC iPlayer coming to Xbox 360 next week - report
Free to Gold and Silver subscribers

Rumour has it that the Xbox 360's long-awaited BBC iPlayer app will be on virtual shelves next week.

The tip-off is Eurogamer's, and the move apparently follows much negotiation on the subject of charging for services. The BBC is free, funded by taxpayer cash-monies. Xbox Live Gold obviously isn't.

The BBC seems to have carried the debate, as iPlayer will reportedly be freely available to both Gold and Silver subscribers. It joins a wide selection of apps including Channel 4, Channel 5, Youtube and Lovefilm.

We'll go stare pointedly at the nearest Microsoft PR rep. Fingers crossed.
