XBLA Achievements policy being reworked, claims report
Higher Gamerscore and more Achievements available from June

Microsoft is to make a number of changes to its Xbox Live Arcade Achievements policy, including raising the Gamerscore cap and number of Achievements on offer in downloadable titles.

That's according to an unconfirmed Xbox 360 Achievements report based on information provided by what's described as a previously reliable source.

A basic Xbox Live Arcade game can currently offer up to 350 Gamerscore / 35 Achievements with DLC add-ons. According to the site, the updated policy will enable developers to offer:

Base: 400 Gamerscore / Max of 30 Achievements
DLC: Up to 100 Gamerscore + 8 Achievements per Quarter (4 Max)
Total: Up to 800 Gamerscore / 62 Achievements

The site claims makers of XBLA games launched between April 1 and May 31 will be able to decide which policy they would like to use, but that as of June 1 they'll be required to use the updated policy for all new releases.

Xbox 360 Achievements suggests: 'These new rules give more opportunities for better progression of achievements through story and multiplayer, as well as allowing for more unique and fun achievements that we often see in retail games, but can be rare for an arcade.

'It also can lengthen the development cycle for a single game, allowing a company to offer up to a full year of DLC additions that can increase the game's Gamerscore.'

Good.  XBLA games have advanced far beyong the 200G limit, especially with games like I Am Alive and Alan Wake on XBLA.
