Gears of War 2
« on: August 28, 2009, 07:14:57 AM »
GameStop have announced, starting next month, you'll be able to buy a "bundled" version of Gears of War 2, called the "Game of the Year" edition.

It includes the main game along with all post-release DLC, which comes to 19 maps and the bonus singleplayer level Road to Ruin. Well..."include" is such a strong word...you get a download card in the box for it, meaning to access the DLC, you have to get the game home then download it. Really, guys, would it have killed you to put it on the disc?

Regardless, the download token seems to have stopped the game from going Platinum, with the Gears 2 GOTY selling for $40.

I guess it was only a matter of time!

lol, you'd be so pissed off if you bought it and didn't have LIVE. Always read the label.

They're on to me.   :o

A lot of my local friends are not huge videogame enthusiasts, and are not willing to buy DLC.  So I like to buy 'bundled' games on disc so I can let them borrow it.  I did this for Oblivion, the first Gears, and plan on doing the same for Fallout and GTA4.

I guess it looks like Gears 2 GOTY isn't getting any love from Mr. Neato.

Congrats.   :D

I want some Double XP too.  I don't think I'm good enough, but I would also like to give public multiplayer a go for that sweet sweet 500 bonus.   ;D

taken from the official Gears forums, posted by Rod Fergusson

OFFICIAL: TU5 is on it's way soon.
Hey all,

As I'm sure most of you are aware, there's been a rash of cheating going on and it looks like it's due to a security vulnerability that was introduced in the previous title update. We've fixed the problem and are working hard to get the latest title update with the fix tested and certified.

Beyond the hacking fix, there will also be some other awesome improvements and fixes in TU5. As an example, we've fixed "sticky walk", we've fixed the Subway exploit and we've added the ability to see friendly planted grenades in Tac/Com.

I'm sorry for those of you that have been affected by cheaters and we'll be doing everything we can to rectify it.

Thanks,

Rod.

I agree, it's alright if 5 of us are playing Public as at least we can still have a laugh, last Friday was a good example, i don't mind it then but when you play with randoms it's mostly damn annoying.

Gears of War 2 TU5 passes cert; Epic passes along list of fixes

Epic's latest list of fixes to Gears of War 2's online multiplayer aims to satisfy what seems to be an ever-growing community of dissatisfied gamers.

The new Title Update (#5) reverts the roadie-run camera back to its state in the first Gears of War and fixes an exploit where "a player could modify the game's behavior due to a security vulnerability introduced in an earlier title update." The update also kills the ability to use turbo controllers with the game -- something folks have been using to increase their rate of fire -- and turns off the ability to mantle the shield in competitive multiplayer matches, eradicating the ability to escape the map or glitch certain pieces of geometry.

The fixes sound all well and good, but is it enough to bring folks back to the game and satisfy those still playing with a chip on their massive, hulkish shoulders? We'll all find out when the update goes live, which Epic's Rod Fergusson says could happen as early as today or Monday.

I think i'm getting quite good at Gears, i'll soon be as good as Dark (maybe)... but it's hard to tell if i'm any good if i have to fight against people who can shoot while rolling, can down me in a short burst of the locust gun and like last night shotgun me into death from 10ft away.

I do like playing when it's against randoms who don't cheat and are easy to beatm, or was that the AI i can't remember.

a little more info on the title update

This update has passed certification and as of 2am Monday 26th Oct it will be live.

EPIC trying to patch up lot's of exploits to make gears what it should be yet again!

Gears of War 2 Title Update 5 Detailed Release Notes

The following fixes and improvements are included in Title Update 5.

Improvements

Title Update 5 makes these new improvements:

    * Adds the ability to view friendly-planted grenades in Tac/Com.
    * Removes the cringe caused when a smoke grenade forces a player to drop a meatshield.
    * Adds bonus points to the winning leader's score in the Guardian game mode if the leader successfully survives the winning round.
    * Changes the postmatch Invite button to only invite former teammates, so a player can create parties more easily instead of trying to create a Private Match that includes both teams from the former match.
    * Returns the roadie-run camera movements to the way they were in Gears of War 1 by decreasing the dampening values.

Exploit Fixes

Title Update 5 fixes these possible exploits, where under certain circumstances:

    * A player could modify the game's behavior due to a security vulnerability introduced in an earlier title update.
    * A player could use a turbo controller to artificially maximize their rate of fire.
    * A player could mantle a planted shield in competitive multiplayer to hide inside geometry or to travel outside of the map. The ability to mantle shields was removed in competitive multiplayer but remains in Horde and Campaign.

Title Update 5 also fixes a number of other, lesser-known exploits.

General Fixes

Title Update 5 fixes these other issues as well:

    * An issue that contributed to the "sticky walk" problem, where a player's avatar could stutter after the player picks up a weapon.
    * An issue that could prevent players from hearing the "boom" telegraph from Boomers.
    * An issue that could cause looping audio to continue playing after the player who triggered that sound is killed.
    * An issue that could cause multiple names to be highlighted yellow on the scoreboard instead of the name of the player viewing the scoreboard.
    * An issue that prevented the game from granting the earned experience points from the fiftieth wave of Horde.
    * An issue that caused players at level 100 to see the "congratulations" message after every match.

Title Update 5 also made additional small bug fixes.
