BioWare: PS3 refs in ME2 code erroneous

BioWare has denied that Mass Effect 2 is on its way to PlayStation 3 after fans uncovered references to the Sony platform in files included with the PC version.

As reported by Eurogamer Portugal, the PC version includes various references to PS3 in DefaultEngine.ini and other files.

BioWare's Chris Priestly replied on the official forum: "Unreal Engine is cross-platform, hence the PS3 code. This was brought up back in Mass Effect 1 days as well. Mass Effect is for the PC and Xbox 360."

Mass Effect 2 came out on PC and Xbox 360 last week to much acclaim, and currently sits atop the UK charts.

The developer noted on its official forums that no fix is currently planned to help those still gaming on standard-definition television sets where the in-game text is nearly unreadable.

"We understand that on some Standard Definition TVs the smallest text in Mass Effect 2 can be difficult to read. While this was not an intentional result, it was a byproduct of enhancements to the user interface," said community man Michael Gamble.

"After investigating potential solutions, we have determined that while this issue does affect a small portion of SDTV owners, we are unable to resolve it for Mass Effect 2 through a title update."

BioWare notes that future Mass Effect titles may not suffer from this issue.

"However, we have taken note of this issue and will take it into consideration as we plan future games in the Mass Effect franchise
Can't wait for Shenmue 3

I hate jokes that rely on visual imagery.

I've had it right up to here with them.

Failed

Dragon Age is pretty bad too, another BioWare game :P

GamerMan316

As bad as the text in Dead Rising?  Everyone complained about that, it's fine in HD but on SD tv's it's a joke.

Lukehi

Would this be a deal breaker then?  I haven't bought the game yet and won't if its gonna be a mare to play through cos of the text.

& yes my TV is shite!

Putting the "stud" back in Bible Study

i'm sure they're talking about little portables with 14" screens, anything over 30" is gonna be fine

Jaynestown

Finished it last night, it's awesome, and the characters grew on me the more I played it (with the exception of Subject Zero, she's too whiny!!!).  ;D

Thank god for the new Tomb Raider, helped me de-stress after a tough week! More of the same please

I played Dead Rising and Mass Effect 1 on a 32" SD screen.  I had no problem reading the text.

I didn't have trouble with Mass Effect, but Dead Rising was unplayable in parts because I couldn't read a thing.

Dead rising was pathetic for reading its text.  Seriously Pathetic.

Mass Effect 2 on the other hand ive not had a problem with.

Even on my 32" tv Dead risings TINY (<¬ Ironic.) writing is lame!

Honour, Respect, Loyalty.

EEDAR vice president and analyst Jesse Divnich says Mass Effect 2 has proved itself as the best selling January release of all time.
EEDAR - which stands for Electronic Entertainment Design and Research - says Mass Effect 2 shifted 572,000 copies in January despite only being released late that month. That was enough to trump the record holder NFL Street on PS2 (er... what?) which had 325,000 sales.

It's more proof that big hitters tend not to be released in January as much as anything else but it's still a feather that BioWare will happily sport in its cap, no doubt.

Just wanted to say that I finally started playing Mass Effect 2 last night.

It took me a while to get started since my Mass Effect 1 "Character Data" did not carry over to my new Hard Drive, even though the "Gamesaves" did.

Using my Datel XPORT, I explored a backup I made of my original 20GB Hard Drive which I used to play the original ME1, and discovered the cause of this problem experienced by so many other people that have upgraded Hard Drives since playing ME1 ...

When Mass Effect 2 searches your Hard Drive for your ME1 Character Data, it doesn't search for your ME1 gamesaves at all.  The "Character Data" is actually a very small (~ 20KB) file that is hidden / invisible.  It's not even contained in your Mass Effect 1 gamesave folder.  Confusingly, there is a file contained in your gamesaves called "Game Profile" or something similar, which most assume is what is required to transfer your ME1 data to ME2.  Sadly, that's not the case, and caused a mild panic among BioWare message boards.

So it appears that your Mass Effect 1 "Character Data" cannot be transferred form one Hard Drive to another.  If you have upgraded from the Hard Drive used to play Mass Effect 1, the only solution is to load a gamesave close to the game end and complete the game once more.  If you had "Auto-Save" on, then the game would have saved right before your 2nd (last) fight with Saren.  If so, it shouldn't take longer than 5 minutes to "complete" the game once more.

Now with all of that craziness behind me, let me add ...

Mass Effect 2 is teh AWZUM!!!!   ;D ;D ;D

I can't wait to get home and play some more.
