Official: Natal is called Kinect

Microsoft has confirmed that Project Natal is called Kinect.

The controller-free camera peripheral still has no price or release date, but following Sunday's "premiere" event at the Galen Center in Los Angeles we also know what a number of its games will look like.

Software shown at the event included racing title Joy Ride (originally announced as a microtransaction-driven Xbox Live Arcade title a year ago), Kinectimals (a pet game), Kinect Sports (Boxing! Bowling! Table tennis!), Kinect Adventures (including the river rafting game that's been seen), Dance Central (developed by MTV Games), and Star Wars and Disney titles.

The showcase, which featured a super-expensive elephant and meteor-inspired Cirque de Soleil performance as its centrepiece and involved dressing up, also revealed that there will be a gesture-based "Video Chat" application.

Earlier in the day we heard via an Italian web advert that Microsoft also plans to announce a slim Xbox 360 with a 250GB hard disk with built-in Wi-Fi. That remains unconfirmed, but was a pretty good bet anyway after motherboard images leaked in March.

Microsoft is expected to announce that, plus pricing and release dates for Natal - sorry, Kinect - at its official press conference today, 14th June. That kicks off at 10.30am PST / 6.30pm BST and you can catch it all live on Eurogamer.

We'll also be getting our hands on Kinect immediately after the premiere, so you won't have to wait too long for impressions. We thought we'd send the blacksmith of the future along to make sure it all works out from a technical perspective, too. Watch out, Kudo!

I'll change the thread name to match the new crappy name  :)

Kinect gets gesture-based Video Chat

Microsoft's Kinect  unveiling pulled back the curtain on a new video chat program, aptly titled Video Chat. Here, gamers will be able to participate in face-to-face communication and even share photos -- remember Photo Party?

The program is entirely navigated through gestures. No price nor a launch date was revealed by Microsoft. We'll let you know when we find out.

what we need is video chat when playing Gears 3. We can have a little camera in the top rtight corner and when you kill someone or they kill you , the video box pops up with their smug chainsaw wielding face or them in tears when you pop from around a corner and shotgun them to pulp.

should put me in charge of ideas, i'm teh awesome.

knikki91

So motion controllers and a video camera?

Interesting

So if we take the average player of Uno with this camera thing then wont the likes of Gears be full of images of fat balding old block showing there bit s at you when you chain saw them?

Failed

yep ..... but i suppose you can have the option to turn it off, incase you've had dinner or something, don't want to chuck it back up.

Here's the laggy gameplay video from the link I posted earlier, doesn't look very good.

Just watching some of the Kinect games at E3 and I have somehow become even less interested in this concept than before.   ;D

That being said, some of the dashboard and video/music stuff was pretty cool, but i'm not spending over £100 just so I don't have to use a remote control.   :)

Your weight around ;D

Well I still love it even though it now has a crappy name. PS2 had a similar name for a game call kenetics or something.

I will read all review's on it as some people are so negative and have taken an instant dislike to it anyway
Can't wait for Shenmue 3

I hate jokes that rely on visual imagery.

I've had it right up to here with them.

The games look awful, especially that Kinectimals crap, the Sports one is basically Wii Sports with prettier graphics, the Star Wars game didn't look too bad but they all still suffered from bad lag which they only have 5 months to fix, still no confirmed price yet.

I am sure it will be fixed in time. If not we will get a patch. It is like Wii sports but it looks more fun and energetic. I like games like that but I wouldn't want to play Gears or CoD on it. Kinect should be just used for silly games.
For me it's just an add on that I want so I don't need to ask the kids if I can use their Wii

So it seems  :D

For me the hype train was blown up by terrorists, killing everyone on board, before it even took off on it's maiden voyage, the terrorists are still at large btw, they've begun preperations on Target Move now, Sony are fucked  ;D
