Natal developer kit instructions leak

Photographs of the Project Natal development kit have apparently leaked onto the internet along with handling and installation instructions.

The latter perhaps offer the most insight, explaining: "The sensor array includes a new motorised tilt mechanism. Do not manually tilt the sensor array on its base. Doing so can damage the tilt mechanism."

Apparently the pre-release version also required its own power source. In a diagram accompanying the above warning, a cable is shown emerging from the Natal camera unit and connecting to another cable which then splits - one end going to the Xbox 360 and another to a plug socket.

The setup instructions also alluded to installing "the latest XDK software" - XDK is the name of the software development kit for Xbox 360.

Ballmer: Natal "most exciting" MS product

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has described Project Natal as the "most exciting product" his company will release all year.

"Perhaps for me the most exciting product we'll bring to market this year, and it really fits in this context, actually comes out of our videogaming group," he told a meeting of executives in Columbia this week, as reported by ZDNet.com (thanks VG247).

"You might say, why would I talk to a group of CEOs about videogames? Because the technology actually is very general purpose, and we'll see come into the rest of our lives pretty soon... It's a technology that we call Natal."

Ballmer said that the advantage of Natal was that "you don't go get some remote control or big fat gaming thing", you "just gesture, and the computer recognises your voice, it recognises your gestures."

He seemed very excited about it, particularly applications beyond gaming. "And if you think about that in a lot of settings, why am I carrying this thing?" he said rhetorically. "I've already forgotten three times where I set it down. I should just be able to go like this, and the camera should recognise that gesture and control the slides for me, and let these kinds of things freely happen."

Microsoft has previously said to expect Natal to learn from your actions in future, possibly judging your sports affiliation by the colour of your "jersey", or shopping you to the feds for breaching the terms of your parole.

Project Natal is due to launch for Xbox 360 this autumn, and Microsoft is set to demonstrate it for the first time in nearly a year at E3 in June. The company is holding a World Premier Project Natal for Xbox 360 Experience event on 13th June, and will elaborate on its plans at its annual E3 conference the next day. We've already been told to expect the add-on's full line-up of software there too.

I'm still not  ;D

I'll pick it up cheap a few weeks after it completely bombs, so just before Christmas, and then, like the majority of my 360 stuff, I won't use it.

Can't wait for Shenmue 3

I hate jokes that rely on visual imagery.

I've had it right up to here with them.

Project Natal "definitely" in October

Microsoft's marketing manager for Entertainment & Devices in Saudi Arabia has said that Project Natal will "definitely" launch in October 2010.

"I do have great news to share with everybody - that Project Natal will be launched in Saudi Arabia on the [inaudible] that it will be launched in the world - that is going to be somewhere in October," Syed Bilal Tariq said in an interview clip captured by GamertagRadio.

"We will be in a position to confirm the date after E3, which is in June. But definitely, it is going to be October 2010."

Microsoft has everyone involved in Project Natal on lockdown until next month's industry showcase, when it plans to introduce updated Natal hardware and software to the press on Sunday 13th June.

The platform holder will then make its customary annual announcements on Monday 14th June at a press conference in Los Angeles.

The company has previously said to expect its "full line-up" at E3, including a range of third-party titles. Third parties Eurogamer has spoken to about their software claim to be sworn to secrecy until E3.

The guy is an idiot.

If Natal does release in October, it will be nothing more than coincidence.  This guy knows nothing.

My mate's sister's boyfriend's uncle overheard a conversation between two random guys on a train in London, they were saying that Natal has been cancelled in favour of a Sony buyout, as that is top priority at Microsoft, you heard it here first.   ;D

MTV and Microsoft Join Forces to Bring Cirque Du Soleil To E3 Natal Stage

MTV and Microsoft have got together to broadcast its massive Project Natal demonstration at E3 2010 and have secured acrobatic troupe extraordinares, Cirque du Soleil to perform at the event.

"We look forward to making entertainment history again at E3 Expo 2010 and can't think of a better partner than MTV Networks to exclusively share our news, experiences and Cirque du Soleil's amazing creativity with an entirely new audience," said Don Mattrick, senior vice president, Interactive Entertainment Business, Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft.

Whether Cirque du Soleil will actually play Natal or just dance and perform incredible feats around it is currently unknown, but it's hard to imagine a huge human pyramid teetering in front of a small Natal camera.

All will be revealed on June 15th when the 'World Premiere Project Natal for Xbox 360 Experience' airs commercial-free on MTV and its affiliated channels.

Great!  Spend money on some crappy circus act instead of on sorting out crappy tech, priorities eh?   ;D

Lukehi

are we expecting the official name to be announced at E3?
