Halo: Reach co-op difficulty scales

Bungie has said that Halo: Reach will feature scalable difficulty in co-op.

According to the studio's Brian Jarrard, speaking to Kotaku, enemies will toughen up when faced with two, three or four players rather than a lone Spartan.

In previous games, groups of players would need to increase the difficulty level manually to make the game more challenging, but in Reach the effect will be the same - also meaning that higher difficulty levels will be even more difficult.

Along with a sizable campaign starring a group of Spartans on the doomed human colony of Reach, the game features rethought multiplayer and an updated version of Halo 3: ODST's Firefight mode.

Halo: Reach is due out on 14th September.

Scaleable coop will mean Legendary is tougher, i bet it'll still work with 2 people running in and getting murdered whilst 2 people Battle Rifle the room/valley/space station to death!!

Bungie explored Halo 4 before Reach

Bungie thought about creating Halo 4 before settling on prequel Halo: Reach, community directory Brian Jarrard has revealed.

Series hero Master Chief would have woken up from his cryo-sleep in the game, had it happened.

"Even before the idea to build a game based around Reach came about, a lot of other concepts were explored, up to and including a proper Halo 4, where Master Chief was going to wake up from cryo-sleep and we were going to tell that story," Jarrard told MTV Multiplayer.

Although Reach, set to be the last Bungie-developed Halo, is shaping up to be one of 2010's biggest games, some fans are disappointed that Bungie decided to create a prequel to the first Halo rather than continuing Master Chief's story.

"It just wasn't as interesting to the team to just pick up where that left off and all the baggage that came with it," Jarrard explained.

"I think it was a little bit liberating. Hearing the guys talk about working through the trilogy and the obligation of keeping the themes moving forward and tying them up systematically. And ODST was also kinda nice 'cause they could do something different, something separate, and it's totally self-contained.

"I definitely think that, for Reach, a lot of the same attitude carried over. We don't want to open up a whole bunch of doors that we're not going to close. By the end of this, it's all going to come to a nice, neat finish, and if people want to then go play the Halo trilogy, I think they'll have a better understanding of what's going on, but it's not required at all."

There's been loads of speculation that Master Chief turns up at some point in Halo: Reach, but according to MTV Multiplayer, Jarrard confirmed that the faceless space marine "is nowhere in this game".

Master Chief fans shouldn't be too worried, though. Reach is shaping up nicely. Game's out on the Xbox 360 on 14th September.

All I prey is that at the end of Halo Reach they don't bring in that bullocks with the time travel/black hole bullshit which brings MC into the story line with Reach.

MC is the best I do 343 Studios bring him back, his story cannot just end with him in Cryo tube heading towards a random planet  :P

Hopefully the Spartans in Reach won't be as brooding as MC. Will be good to hear some Spartan Squad banter, can't wait bring on September!!

Halo: Reach Achievements partially revealed

The latest Bungie Weekly Update revealed the studio's fairly brilliant strategy for foiling the attempts of haxx0rs who planned on leaking the Achievements for Halo: Reach. All the team has to do, you see, is leak the Achievements first. Not the full, detailed list, mind you -- just the icons, which are posted in the image seen above.

The game's 49 unlockable honors are broken down into five groups, Campaign (23), Firefight (7), Multiplayer (4), Training (6) and Player Experience (9). You can find the descriptions of six of the Achievements posted after the jump. For all the rest, you're just going to have to use your imagination. For instance, that one with the Caduceus on it? We're pretty sure that's the Achievement for when you put down your guns, go back to school, and become a Registered Nurse.

    * A Monument to All Your Sins – Complete each Campaign Mission on Legendary – alone.
    * Banshees, Fast and Low – Hijack a Banshee during the Reach Campaign.
    * Yes, Sensei – Earn a First Strike Medal in a Matchmaking game.
    * A New Challenger – Complete all of the Daily Challenges in a given day.
    * Make It Rain – Purchase an item from the Armory that requires the rank of Lt. Colonel.
    * If They Came to Hear Me Beg – Perform an Assassination against an Elite to survive a fall that would've been fatal.

love it, can't wait to do Legendary solo..... although i'd have preferred an achiev to do Legendary in a group of 4.

Each level has a specific achievement for doing something amazing i've heard.

nCogNeato

If the difficulty achievements are stackable, I'll be going Legendary my first playthrough.  If you need cannon fodder, let me know.   ;)
