Official: Halo Reach 'biggest entertainment launch of 2010'
Microsoft confirms Reach made $200m in first 24 hours

Halo Reach has become the biggest entertainment launch of 2010 in just a few days on sale, Microsoft's announced.

Since it landed in shops worldwide on Tuesday, Reach has eclipsed every game, movie and entertainment launch this year (including the opening weekends of Iron Man 2 and Toy Story 3), the platform holder has claimed via a just-sent-out statement.

Microsoft also confirmed the incredible statistic released at TGS this morning, that Reach made over $200 million in its first 24 hours on sale. You could buy Bungie back with that sort of money.

"Halo: Reach is the biggest game Microsoft has ever released, and its launch has already surpassed every game, movie and entertainment launch this year," said Phil Spencer, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios.

"Every major instalment has grown in scope and popularity, firmly cementing the 'Halo' franchise as one of the most popular entertainment properties in the world over the past decade."

UK Xbox boss, Stephen McGill added: "Demand for 'Halo: Reach' has been phenomenal across the world and the UK is no exception.

"As we saw on Monday night, thousands of Halo fans queued across the UK at more than 400 GAME and GameStation and we expect the game to keep flying off the shelves throughout the weekend."

Impressively, the new instalment has also managed to beat Halo 3's all-time online user record.

I started my Legendary (first) playthrough last night.  As to be expected, it is the best Halo game to-date.

The graphics are far superior to Halo 3 (but I've seen much better).
The enemy AI is great, and crazy aggressive (at least on Legendary).
The new and redesigned weapons add a much-needed new feel to the Halo franchise.
The armor abilities & customization does a great job of breaking the monotony, and secures a place in my collection for a long time.

Sounds cool.Might start on Legendary myself and see how I get on!

MS: After Halo Reach we'll have new exclusive FPS

With Bungie now going multiplatform and Halo Reach out the door and storming the gaming charts, what's next for Microsoft? According to a new interview with Xbox UK boss, Microsoft is looking to invest in new exclusive fps for the Xbox platform.

Asked if they were looking to have another great FPS franchise to add to the Xbox, Xbox UK boss Neil Thompson replied:

We'll be looking to have lots of FPS games, ideally exclusive to us. I'm not going to make any announcements about any FPS games we have in the pipeline right now - because that will lose me my job -

but yes, first-person shooters are a great genre of product that have served us very well and will continue to serve us well in the future. We will be bringing great products out. So yes, whether people like racing, dancing, FPS, strategy... whatever they like we'll be bringing out franchises that we think they'll love. That's the one thing I can commit to.

Further more Microsoft is investing in other core franchises to sit along Halo, Fable and Gears of War.

We have a number of amazing franchises that we've built be it Fable that's coming out, Gears of War next year...

We can say to our customers and fans of Halo is we'll constantly innovate, we'll constantly find gaming experiences that will excite them and the fact that Bungie is going to do what Bungie is going to do doesn't mean that they're not going to have amazing experiences on Xbox - they will. We'll make sure that we constantly invest and innovate to give them that.

Halo: Reach doubles UK 360 sales

The widely-publicised launch of Halo: Reach helped double sales of Xbox 360 in the UK last week, according to official chart monitor Gfk-ChartTrack.

Bungie's shooter had a "marked effect on hardware sales", with Xbox "up 99 per cent" for the week ending 18th September, director Dorian Bloch revealed to Eurogamer this afternoon.

Halo: Reach, which launched last Tuesday, 14th September, shifted an estimated 300,000 copies in its first 24 hours at UK retail, and went on to enjoy the fifth biggest-selling launch week ever.

Nevertheless, Halo: Reach's effect on Xbox 360 sales falls well short of the 1000 per cent increase that was fuelled by the launch of the Xbox 360 S model earlier this year.

Eurogamer understands that sales of GAME's limited-edition Halo-themed Xbox 360 played a significant part in the upsurge.

That is f***ing amazing.  Bungie really made the world a better place with Forge World.

I don't have a fraction of the skill to do anything like that, but I'm more than happy to enjoy the hard work of others.   ;)

Everyone should download this.  We'll give it a go Friday Night.   8)
