FPS fans never have long to wait for their next new play thing. Especially not with Activision and Microsoft taking it in turn to release new map packs for Call of Duty and Halo. Despite the Black Ops First Strike map pack having been out for only a couple of days, Major Nelson has stated that a new Halo add-on will be released "very soon".

The statement comes from a recent Inside Xbox video in which the Major discusses the best games of 2010. Casually mentioning a new add-on for Halo: Reach coming in the near future. No other details or specific time frame. Just "very soon".
We suspect Microsoft's savvy enough to wait for the dust to settle from the Call of Duty: Black Ops First Strike map pack before they go announcing anything concrete. Sounds like we could be hearing something within weeks, though.

I just hope they do not include new achievements.  I already have them all, don't make me have to get more!  lol

Halo: Reach Defiant Map Pack leaked

Images of what appear to be an upcoming map pack for Xbox 360 exclusive first-person shooter Halo: Reach have leaked onto the internet.

French site Halo Destiny posted several images of the Defiant Map Pack before removing them at Microsoft and Bungie's request (thanks, Joystiq).

The images are still available on photo site Flickr, but for how long?

According to the site, the DLC contains three maps. Condemned takes place aboard a human frigate. Unearthed features open spaces. And Highland has a giant Covenant cruiser that's glassing a planet. Those guys...

Bungie and Microsoft released Halo: Reach's first map pack in November last year. It featured three new maps.

Handshakes

Anybody else really underwhelmed by the Noble map pack? I've only been able to get into one game with the new maps, and it didn't scream $10 worth of content to me.

I haven't even considered buying it.  I'll pick it up if it goes on sale, or if for some I go through a brief Reach obsession ... which is possible.

Same here.  I don't see any reason to pay for either the Noble map pack or the new one they are about to release.

Halo Reach Defiant map DLC announced
Three new maps created by Black Ops DLC firm

Microsoft's officially announced the next Halo Reach DLC add-on, the Defiant Map Pack.

Created in partnership with Certain Affinity, who previously worked on Halo 2 maps and the Call of Duty: Black Ops First Strike DLC, the Defiant Map Pack will be available this March on Xbox Live for 800 Microsoft points.

The pack includes three new multiplayer maps as well as new Achievements worth a total of 150 Gamerscore.

These are the maps, in Microsoft's words:

Condemned: Condemned takes place aboard Orbital Station Gamma, a massive space station high in orbit above the planet Reach. Prior to the Covenant's overwhelming invasion, Orbital Station Gamma provided long range communications for UNSC fleets and a vital lifeline between Reach and Earth. During the Battle of Reach, the station suffered terrible punishment at the hands of the Covenant but a few fortified sections remain intact, fully pressurized, and ready for combat. Condemned supports 6 - 12 players in a variety of action-packed game types, including Team Slayer, Team Objective and Free for All.

Highlands: Highlands takes place on the top-secret Military Wilderness Training Preserve on Reach. The Preserve is a large, wooded area where Spartan super-soldiers trained long before the war with the Covenant began. During the Battle of Reach, the Preserve was the site of key battles between the alien invaders and a group of Spartans who used their familiarity with these UNSC training grounds to significant tactical advantage...but not everyone who enters these woods makes it out alive. Highlands expands the fight with massive-scale engagements for 8 - 16 players in Big Team Battle, Team Slayer and Team Objective.

Unearthed: Unearthed takes the battle for Reach to a large Titanium mine and refinery located in the Viery civilian sector of the planet. This particular mine was built to take advantage of the exposed titanium inside a massive meteor crater. The titanium produced here is used in much of the UNSC hardware, from the chassis of the Warthog to the metres-thick armour plating of capital ships like the UNSC Pillar of Autumn. While this facility was quickly abandoned when the Covenant arrived on Reach, it still has significant tactical (and economic) value and it won't be long before both humans and Covenant return to battle for control. Unearthed allows up to 4 players to launch a counterassault against the Covenant in Firefight and Firefight modes such as Generator Defense.

Well it took 4 objective matches but I got the three new achievements.  Now I have them all again, at least, until the next map pack!
