So this has apparently been going on for a while, now with full monetary backing and a website to boot.

Some in Detroit have been pushing this month for what started as a joke to become a reality. On Feb 7th the Mayor of Detroit was dropped a suggestion via twitter to construct a statue of Robocop and place it in downtown Detroit. The Mayor's declined the idea but Imagination Station Detroit has taken the idea and gone miles with it. Funding has been established and it looks like they've got more than enough to cover the expenses.
