Call of Duty 7 - What We Know So Far
Let the speculation begin...

So Activision has confirmed it exists. Call of Duty 7 is currently in development.

But what else do we know about it? Not much as Activision has literally just confirmed its existence. No trailers. No screenshots. No news. Nothing.

However, there are enough clues and information doing the rounds that we can piece together the first tentative scraps of info. Don't expect any ground-shaking "MAKAROV IS BACK!" style announcements but consider these the first confirmed bits of information or near-confirmed rumours that we know thus far...

It Won't Be As Big As Modern Warfare 2

Not our words but the words of Activision. That oould be a result of Activision realising that the Call of Duty series has peaked with the gargantuan wave of hype that surrounded Modern Warfare 2, or perhaps wanting to scale back expectations knowing that Call of Duty doesn't generate the same mainstream interest without the Modern Warfare name attached.

It Will Be Released In November

Activision has already confirmed that Call of Duty 7 will be out before the end of the year, so the smart money is on November. World at War was in November. Modern Warfare 2 was in November. Why would Call of Duty 7 be any different? It gives Activision momentum going into Christmas while giving them enough time to build the hype during the quieter end of summer months. Don't look for this to change.

More Nazi Zombies

It was new for the series when introduced in World at War and no doubt, Activision saw it was a roaring success. DLC added more Nazi Zombie maps and achievements were flown in, Treyarch would port its mini-game to mobile phone and some fans even asked for a similar mode in Modern Warfare 2. If Treyarch is indeed at the helm for Call of Duty 7, expect a similar mode if the settings won't allow the zombies to be of the Nazi kind. Speaking of which...

Treyarch Will Be At The Helm

Surprisingly, this hasn't been officially confirmed, so it's still firmly lodged in 'rumour' territory. But the lack of alternative makes it a given for Activision - Infinity Ward won't be able to turn around a game in such a short space of time (and it's working on Modern Warfare 2 DLC) and Treyarch is the only other studio trusted with the franchise. The taking turns ritual between Treyarch and Infinity Ward is something of a famous one, and there has been no indication to date that this will change.

It Will Be Set In Vietnam

There have been various leaks suggesting the seventh Call of Duty will be set in Vietnam and Treyarch has already indicated it won't be returning to World War II. So really, beyond Vietnam, where else could it even be anyway? The lack of proven alternatives might force Activision's hand here...

It Will Pack In DLC

This has been a huge money-spinner for Activision. The map packs for World at War was something of a masterclass in how to do DLC - frequent bursts of quality DLC will keep fans shelling out again and again. Modern Warfare 2 has been slow off the mark, probably because Infinity Ward has had to keep returning to the main game itself to plug the leaks in the netcode, but you can bet Activision will be on the ball again for the next in the series.

This isn't really fair.  I'm not generally a buy upon release kinda gamer, I'm getting MW2 this coming week.  This and the other post already has me ready to pre-order whatever COD is on the horizon!!

Kyuubi

Sounds all good as far as rumours go.
As for the nazi zombies......the only reservation I have is that I felt they really over did it after a while and it got boring hence it getting traded recently.

COD7 Vietnam rumours resurface

Speculation that the Treyarch-developed Call of Duty 7 is set during the Vietnam War has resurfaced following an Activision call for motion capture and voice-over actors

The casting sheet outlines the roles of four central characters, the leader of which - Frank Barnes - works for the Studies and Observation Group (SOG) that's based in Vietnam. That setting is backed by the post-WWII descriptions of the three other squad members, although Vietnam is not specifically mentioned.

Barnes is an "old warhorse" in his late forties who has a "gravelly" but "authoritative" voice. "A fiercely patriotic veteran of WWII, Frank is a solid leader, possessed with an excellent ability to assess and respond to any situation quickly and decisively. In other words - nothing fazes him," reads the description, spotted by VG247.

Barnes is joined by Joseph Lewis, Jason Hudson and Kristina Ivanova. Lewis, a black male in his late twenties, is something of an army prodigy - albeit a small, wiry and silent one. Hudson's a big lump in his mid-thirties who excels at the tactical side of warfare but can clearly pack a punch if needed, apparently.

Finally, Ivanova is a Russian who fled her homeland and wound up working for the CIA. She's in her late twenties, is an expert at martial arts and isn't trusted by her US colleagues.

Call of Duty 7, whatever it may be, will be developed by Treyarch and be released this year.

More Call of Duty 7 Details Revealed : Black Ops....

Call of Duty 7: Black Ops (CoD7) is the next game in the massive Call of Duty (CoD) franchise. In a recent report on Tek9, Activision shared some details about the new CoD game.

Black Ops is scheduled for release in November 2010 and sources indicate the game developed by Treyarch will be set in history, between World War II and present day. It is also hinted that some of the missions will take gamers to Cuba and South America which hints at a Cold War and Vietnam based game.

In true Modern Warfare style, gamers will reportedly get a chance to play as a member of the Special Air Service (SAS) in which players will be involved in close combat during a mission in the Iranian embassy during the 1980's.

The game is also hinted to feature the popular "zombie mode" where players will get to gun down forces of zombies which was made popular in Call of Duty: World at War.

For South African PC gamers and worldwide PC gamers alike, CoD7 is set to feature dedicated servers. Gamers across the world should put their hands together for Activision who seem to be weeding out the problems with previous titles by re-adding dedicated servers to the franchise.

"... With a scheduled release date of November 2010 the game is still in full development but undisclosed sources over at Activision have stated that "Call of Duty 7 will be set in recent history, between WWII and present day". Besides this information the sources have also confirmed that some missions will take us to Cuba and South America, hinting again in the direction of a Cold War / Vietnam based game.

Also revealed was that in certain missions the players are able to play as a member of SAS (the Special Air Service), the principle special forces unit of the British Army. One of these SAS missions pitches you in close combat during a mission in the Iranian embassy in London during the 1980's.

It has also been confirmed that Call of Duty 7: Black Ops will feature the popular zombie mode, in which players get to shoot down hordes of zombies, a feature that could not be seen in the Infinity Ward produced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

And last but not least, dedicated servers will also be part of the new Call of Duty game, much to the delight of PC gamers across the world. After Activision fired Vince Zampella and Jason West from Infinity Ward, it seems like they are taking yet another step back from the direction they had taken with Modern Warfare 2 by re-adding dedicated servers."

Hope this is true, an Iranian Embassy Siege level sounds bloody awesome  :)

I am done with CoD games. They bring them out way to often. Although I have said that before. I will probarbly just follow the hype
Can't wait for Shenmue 3

I hate jokes that rely on visual imagery.

I've had it right up to here with them.

There won't be the massive overhype that MW2 got for this as it's a Treyarch game, all the IW fanboys will be hating on it as soon as it's been officially announced, without even seeing it or playing it (like with World at War) and then they'll continue to hate on it when it turns out to be a superior game to their beloved MW2, it's what they do, poor deluded fools.

Next Call of Duty to be announced on GameTrailers TV this week

If you're looking for Call of Duty news that isn't related to the Infinity Ward fiasco, you're in luck. This week's GameTrailers TV will feature a brand new teaser trailer that promises to "put all the rumors to rest." We already know that the next iteration of Activision's FPS franchise will be developed by World at War's Treyarch, but this week's GTTV should finally confirm the long-rumored Vietnam setting.

GTTV will air on SpikeTV on Friday night at 12:40AM.

It's official: The new Call Of Duty will be called Black Ops.

The Activision website for the title - the seventh in the series - went live earlier today.

The confirmation of the Black Ops name seems to suggest that previous speculation about the title is true.

According to the original story that revealed the Black Ops name, the Treyarch-developed game will be set throughout the Cold War, and will feature key battles from across the period.

It will reportedly heavily feature segments from the Vietnam conflict - and culminate in the famous 1980 storming of the Iranian Embassy in London by the SAS.

So my post from about a month ago was spot on, cool.  Should be good, i'm probably in the minority again here, but Treyarch are far better devs than IW.   :)
