Most popular Black Ops perks, guns

Out of 15 available Call of Duty: Black Ops perks, Treyarch has revealed the three that are picked most: Marathon, Sleight of Hand and Lightweight.

Marathon, a tier three perk, doubles sprint duration - and the pro version makes sprint infinite; Sleight of Hand, a tier two perk, halves your reload speed - and the pro version makes aiming down sights quicker; and Lightweight, a tier one perk, makes you run faster - and the pro version eliminates fall damage. Is this combination of three perks considered the best?

The most popular guns in Call of Duty: Black Ops are Famas, a fully automatic assault rifle; AK-74u, a submachine gun not an assault rifle like the AK-47; and Galil, another assault rifle.

The deadliest Killstreak by a long way is the RC-XD, with Attack Helicopter, Napalm Strike and Chopper Gunner close behind.

The other stats are represented by numbers so high they boggle the brain.

You think London's got problems? Black Ops has had 242 million stabbings. You think Nottingham's got problems? Over one trillion shots have been fired in Black Ops. You think America's got problems? Black Ops has witnessed nearly 600 million executions.

You think Mel Gibson's got a good idea for a film? There have been more than 10 million paybacks in Black Ops. You think your car insurance premium is high? In Black Ops, nearly one million cars have been destroyed. You think Goose dying in Top Gun was an event? In Black Ops, nearly 1.3 million planes have been downed.

You think footballer Gareth Barry covers a lot of ground? Black Ops players have travelled a distance the size of Earth's circumference 129,069 times. You think a lot of arrows were fired during the opening scene of Gladiator? Well there were, but 3.4 billion crossbow bolts have also been let off in Black Ops.

You think throwing a tomahawk axe like you're in the Last of the Mohicans film is cool? Evidently: over 28 million players have died to the dull thud of a lobbed axe.

If Call of Duty: Black Ops were real, the population of the world would have been killed nine times over. Not even nuclear weapons can do that! And over five billion of those people would have died from a bullet to the face.

Treyarch unlocks Black Ops zombie maps

Gamers who haven't yet unlocked all of Black Ops' zombie-based multiplayer modes are to get free access to the hidden content this weekend, developer Treyarch has announced.

To mark the President's Day holiday weekend in the US, the Dead Ops Arcade and Five modes will be open to all players until Monday evening.

For the uninitiated, Dead Ops Arcade sees you and up to three other players pursuing the Cosmic Silverback through a number of zombie-filled arenas filled.

In Five, you'll assume the identity of one of four Cold War icons - John F. Kennedy, Robert McNamara, Fidel Castrol and Richard Nixon as they attempt to rid the Pentagon of wave after wave of ravenous brain-munchers.

Black Ops double XP this weekend
Level up on all platforms from Friday to Monday

Treyarch has said that Call of Duty: Black Ops players will get double XP this weekend on all platforms.

Community manager Josh Olin said on Twitter: "Double-XP will begin at approx. 10a PST on Friday, March 4th. It ends the same time Monday. All Platforms."

The double XP weekend will follow the arrival of the First Strike map pack and a new patch for the PS3 version on March 3.

Treyarch released title update 7 for the Xbox 360 version of Black Ops yesterday.

NPD: Black Ops is best selling game in history
13.7 million units sold in the US

Call of Duty: Black Ops is the best selling game ever according to a report from NPD Group.

Analyst Anita Frazier said, "Call of Duty: Black Ops was the best-selling game in February, retaining the top selling spot since launch in November. It has now become the best-selling game in history, topping Wii Play."

The market research company confirmed that Black Ops has sold 13.7 million units in the US alone.

Success may not stop there for the Activision FPS either: Call of Duty: Black Ops has been installed by bookie Victor Chandler as the hot favourite to pick up this year's BAFTA GAME Award to be held in London on March 16.

Black Ops map pack 2 leaked: 5 maps, out May
GAME Australia accidentally announces Escalation pack

Call of Duty: Black Ops' second map pack, 'Escalation', has been accidentally announced by GAME Australia.

Going from the e-flyer below, the second Black Ops map pack will include five maps; Zoo, Hotel, Convoy, Stockpile and Zombie map Call of the Dead.

The DLC will be released on Xbox Live on May 3, followed by PSN and PC at a later date.

The debut Black Ops map pack, First Strike, launched on February 1 for Xbox 360, and hit PS3 and PC more recently. That means we can probably expect a third one to land around August.

Speaking in the latest issue of OPM, Treyarch said that it hasn't ruled out the creation of Black Ops 2, but the studio's remaining coy on whether a direct sequel to last year's smash hit may become a reality.

Black Ops: Escalation DLC confirmed

The rumoured  Escalation DLC pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops has been confirmed.

As detailed on Major Nelson's blog, Escalation will feature four new multiplayer maps and "an epic Zombies experience with all-new playable characters."

The Hotel map is set on the roof of a luxury Cuban hotel and casino; Convoy offers close-quarters combat at the scene of an ambushed US military convoy; Zoo takes place in an abandoned Soviet Zoo and Stockpile drops players into a remote Russian farm town housing secret WMD facilities.

No further details were given as to exactly what we can expect from that new Zombies content, or how much the pack will sell for.

Thanks to Microsoft's exclusivity deal, Xbox Live Arcade gets it first from 3rd May, with PC and PlayStation 3 roll-outs as yet unconfirmed.

Failed

doesn't consider Avatars cinema takings or it's Video Game cash in (or Blops DLC moneys). So the statement "biggest entertainment property " is wrong.

Black Ops sold more games than Avatar sold DVD's. Avatar was the bigger property of 2010.

Buffy, Romero and Freddie get busy in glorious Black Ops "Call of the Dead" footage
Escalation DLC abundant in Hollywood talent

It takes a lot to get us excited about Call of Duty: Black Ops news these days, as readers of the last Xbox Live charts piece may have detected. Congratulations Treyarch, you've officially managed it.

The dev's just released another trailer for its upcoming Escalation map pack, and while this one lacks the pop music chops of certain First Strike videos, it is rather abundant in Sarah Michelle Gellar and Danny Trejo shooting zombies in the face.

That hammering in your ears? That's the awesomeness trying to escape.

Gellar (star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Trejo (a big scary Mexican dude who plays a big scary Mexican dude in films like Desperado and Anchorman) are just two of the B-movie celebs to feature in Escalation's Call of the Dead mode, which pits teams of four against waves of walking corpses on a frozen Siberian island.

The other members of the foursome are Robert Englund (Freddie Kreuger to you and me) and Michael Rooker (who plays a racist drug addict in new telly series The Walking Dead).

Oh, and that electrical super-zombie in the background? That's George A. Romero. As in, the zombie film equivalent of Jesus. Pleasure to make your acquaintance, George - now, PERISH IN FLAMES.

Each star appears in their own, digitally rendered likeness. Shotgun Buffy!

Escalation launches on 3rd May, and also carries four vanilla-flavoured Black Ops maps.

Just to play as Trejo is worth the 1200MSP.   :)

yes yes, plus 4 vanilla maps. Hopefully they aren't just remakes of old maps. If not that's not a bad deal for 1200msp (5 maps)
