Red Dead Redemption XP challenge kicks off
Earn XP and unlock avatar awards

Rockstar has launched an XP Challenge for Red Dead Redemption's multiplayer mode.

Xbox Live and PlayStation Network players will compete against each other starting today to unlock special avatar rewards for their respective platforms.

Originally Rockstar intended to use the 'Skin It to Win It' and 'I Shot the Sherriff' Challenges to unlock these avatars, but it has opted to instead take the platform versus platform route.

The winners will be treated to the Elegant Suit, which is based on the outfit worn by John Marston in the main game, and the crimson Posse t-shirt.

You can track the progress of both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 earnings via the live XP thermometer on the Rockstar Games Social Club website.

Rockstar released a title update for the console versions of Red Dead Redemption last month to fix various bugs plaguing the game and its post-launch DLC.

Track the 'thermometer' HERE.

No confirmation yet if the Avatar outfits will be free or simply "unlocked" to be purchased.

Legion

I would assume they'll be free once they're unlocked. All the other Social Club stuff Rockstar have done for RDR has been free once it's unlocked. Granted the rest (as far as I know) were just cheats for use in game, but I don't see why they'd start charging for the stuff now.

Red Dead Redemption gets BAFTA nod after all
Rockstar title up for GAME's publicly voted gong; Mario Galaxy 2, Black Ops also in running

Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption WILL be in the running for a coveted BAFTA gong after all - even though the publisher has declined the chance to be nominated in other categories at this year's awards ceremony.

The stunning open world shooter has bagged a spot on the shortlist for the publicly voted GAME trophy at this year's British Academy Video Games Awards.

However, it will be up against some stiff competition - including Sony's Heavy Rain, Nintendo's Super Mario Galaxy 2, Activision's Call Of Duty: Black Ops and Microsoft's Halo: Reach.

Ten nominations for the prize were revealed by TV presenter Michael Underwood at BAFTA HQ this morning. To cast your vote, visit the BAFTA site.

Last year, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 won the award after over 65,000 people voted for their favourite title of the year.

Neil Ashurst, head of UK PR for GAME continued commented:

"Our panel of experts have created a fantastic shortlist of the year's top titles. We encourage everyone who enjoys playing games to vote for their favourite to win our award at this year's GAME BAFTAs.

"This is the only award where the public have the chance to crown the best game of 2010. There is no foregone conclusion as you have all the power."

The winner will be announced at the GAME British Academy Video Games Awards on Wednesday March 16 at The London Hilton, Park Lane. It will be hosted for the third consecutive year by comedian Dara O'Briain.

BAFTA will announce the full nominations for other awards on Wednesday next week (February 16).

The complete list of nominees for the BAFTA 'people's choice' GAME award are:

Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision/Treyarch)

Dance Central (Microsoft/MTV Games/Harmonix)

FIFA 11 (EA Sports)

Halo Reach (Microsoft/Bungie)
Microsoft Games Studios/Bungie

Heavy Rain (Sony/Quantic Dream)

Limbo (Xbox Live/Playdead Games)

Mass Effect 2 (EA/BioWare)

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (EA/Criterion)

Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar)

Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo)

I would like Limbo to get it, but i think Mario will instead.

Legion

Mass Effect 2 should get it, but I wouldn't be disappointed if RDR got it.

Black Ops will most likely win as it's a public vote, it is the biggest game of the year afterall.

I'm with Failed on Limbo winning, that would be great.   :)

New Red Dead Redemption DLC next week

Various in-game extras offered as pre-order incentives for Red Dead Redemption are available to all as of next week, developer Rockstar Games has announced.

Three separate packs will be added to PlayStation Network and Xbox Live from 12th April, each priced at $0.99 / 80 Microsoft Points.

The Deadly Assassin Outfit causes your Dead Eye meter to regenerate at twice the speed, the Golden Guns Weapon Pack rewards you with more Fame points for each kill in the single player campaign and War Horse gives you the strongest, fastest steed in the game.

"Apologies to everyone for having to wait so long to get these available as DLC as there were some unanticipated technical delays," explained a post on the game's official site.

"For those of you inquiring about the expected availability of the L.A. Noire pre-order bonuses as DLC after game release, those should become available as DLC much, much sooner."

A special, complimentary DLC pack will be coming to Red Dead Redemption in September as a way to show thank-you to the community for the support of the multiplayer component of the game.

QuoteToday we can confirm the title for you: the Myths and Mavericks Bonus Pack will feature new fan-favorite multiplayer characters by popular demand (including a certain grizzled ol' gunslinger as pictured above) as well as new multiplayer locations for players of Deathmatch, Grab the Bag, Gang matches and other popular online modes to get busy in.

It was also mentioned that the cries for the return of original settings to "Undead Overrun" have been heard, and a title update prior to the new DLC release will address those issues.

The "Myths & Mavericks" DLC pack is scheduled for release on Xbox Live in September. At this time, it is unknown if this DLC pack will contain achievements.
