I agree & it's also a shame that you don't properly fight a Brumak like you do in the extra chapter on the PC version of Gears.

By a guy playing as Carmine in a crazy Annex match about 2 hours ago, I levelled up considerably in the match though, so it wasn't all bad

I think exp is doubled until 3rd august on the new maps and any horde maps. I played 7 levels of horde last night and was about to reach level 3 until the host pulled out.

We were on the Nowhere map, first to win 2 rounds (at 180) on Annex, we lost 2-1 but I ended up with around 8000 points and went from level 8 to just under level 12 in one match, gotta love double exp.
