'Very special' Halo: Reach announcement arrives...
You might not like this...

Remember when Microsoft told you it had a "very special" Halo: Reach announcement lined-up for today? It's arrived - and it's perhaps more 'silly' than anything else.

Ready? The platform holder has assembled a UK celebrity 'Super Squad' to take on the best Halo players in the country come launch day.

It will be running competitions until mid-August to discover the UK's best Halo player, who will then lead this 'Super Squad' (we'll say it again - 'Super Squad') against the six next best players.

Who's in it, we hear you ask? Well, Rio Ferdinand, obviously. Jason-Bradbury-the-bald-one-from-The-Gadget-Show (his full name). And attractive (here come the dreaded words) T4 presenter Jameela Jamil.

There's also England Rugby 'hunk', Ben Cohen. Because everyone loves a hunk.

They'll be more celebrities announced in the coming weeks. Our money's on that prat from N-Dubz.

Microsoft announced UK pricing for a host of Reach goodies today - including a Reach-branded console with two limited edition controllers and a special Halo headset.

Failed

There's no chance the 'celebs' will survive against the hardened Halo 3 worshippers who play it all the time.

they iz gunna get prawnd, a'ight

Bradbury is a massive Halo fan and plays it all the time, I guess he'll do okay, no chance for the others though.

Yep, Rio's a big gamer too, Moyles and Vernon from Radio 1 would have been good choices too, though I think they play COD more than Halo so maybe not.   :)

tis all about reactions, you can practice maps and know spawn locales but if you can't shoot a person quick enough, then your no good.

All about the speed reactions, practice on Ikaruga.

DFUSIONITE

I am crap at halo. There, i said it. I am also crap at every FPS online. That feels better, though i guess i should tell you something you didn't know  :D

Failed

I'm sure if they release a barn door game, you might be good at that :P :P

Halo: Reach quitters to be "penalised"

Bungie has warned budding Halo: Reach quitters that it intends to punish them for their transgressions.

The developer has drummed up new ways to boot out those who leave games early so upcoming FPS Halo: Reach will be free from their horrible griefing ways.

"I think one of the new things people will be excited about too, is how we're going to be able to penalise people who are habitually quitting out of games, which isn't exactly cheating, but it creates a really negative experience for everybody else in the game," explained Bungie's community director Brian Jarrard to X360A.

"We actually have new tools now to detect that and eventually, people who do this habitually will actually be penalised.

"We want to be able to remove them from the population so they can't make everyone else keep having a bad time."

Over 40 assassinations in Halo: Reach

Halo: Reach features over 40 custom assassinations, Bungie's revealed.

Reach is the first Halo game to include custom assassinations.

When triggered, the camera pulls back out of first-person perspective into a more cinematic third-person view.

Those who played the recent Reach beta only saw "a mere sampling" of the total number of custom assassinations, Bungie's community manager Eric Osborne wrote in the latest Bungie Weekly Update.

"According to animation producer Matt Richenburg, all told there are over forty custom assassinations packed into the shipping product, most multiplayer, some specific to campaign," he wrote.

The assassinations are context sensitive, so are based upon your position and that of your opponent.

Some even depend on whether or not you have a plasma sword in your stabbing hand.
